Aston Waikiki Beach Tower ?

I am looking for some updated info on either of the following hotels in Hawaii -- Aston Waikiki Beach Tower (Honolulu) and Aston Islander on the Beach (Kauai) Both pop up regularly on several Hawaii web sites offering some unbelievable ~ $75/nt. deals this winter .... Waikiki Beach Hotel looks like a 4-star, but they note that it is being renovated and thus discounted. What is it like today -- Is it a 4-star or a sub par?

I am taking my family this November and am hoping to not be too disappointed when we arrive. I would also welcome any additional good reasonable hotel recommendations in either Honolulu or Kauai

Roger,
I can't comment on either of the hotels you are asking about, however, I do have a recommendation. Have you considered a condo? I have rented from a property management company called DARMIC (a father-daughter team) who manage several privately owned units in the Waikiki Banyan (Aston Hotels also rents units in this development starting at $175+). DARMIC offers a 1-bedroom unit with living room and full kitchen for $85 per night including free parking. I've rented from them twice and have previewed 5 of their rentals and all are an excellent value in very good condition. The Banyan has two towers with a tennis court, 10-15 gas barbecues, a large pool and two spas on a large recreation deck. The Banyan is located on the corner of Kuhio and Ohua, and is a short 5 minute walk to the beach.

DARMIC's web site is http://www.a1vacations.com/darmic/0/

Let me know if you have any questions.
Aloha and Ciao
Giovanni

my info is about 18 mo. old, a friend stayed there and her room was nice, but pretty basic. i thought is was more a small 3-star hotel. it's a nice, decent hotel and my friend liked it because it was just across the street from the beach, which was all she really wanted to go to. i thought the staff were all pretty friendly. it has a pool and is a decent walk to the 'main' part of waikiki, and if you have young kids there are fast-food places very close by if they need it.

i also know the waikiki banyan, and giovanni can correct me if i'm wrong, but our 1-bed unit there had only sliding, non-locking doors separating the bedroom and living room areas. that place would be good if you'd want a kitchenette.

have fun on your trip!
