Aruba vs. Hawaii?
OK.. We are considering going to Aruba this fall. We've been to Maui (last year) and want to know how Aruba compares to Maui? What is there to do in Aruba? We are not into watersports- snorkling, parasailing etc.. I like to sightsee, and relax.
Please advise on how Aruba will compare to Maui? Will we be bored....

This EXACT question seems to come up every 6 months or so. How strange.
I believe my opinion is similar to the vast majority of others who have posted about this.
You know what Maui's like, no explanation needed.
Aruba's assets:
#1 by a long shot is weather: dry and sunny virtually every day of the year, only 12 degrees to the equator.
way out of the hurricane belt.
very nice, friendly people.
quite safe.
nice long stretches of white sand beach.
virtually no racial strife.
stable economy.
not too expensive.
great windsurfing.
casino hotels, a couple of which are quite nice.
overall, a decent selection of restaurants.
easy to get around the island (very small).
Downsides:
very unattractive island (desert climate complete with cacti and virtually no grass, very few flowers).
beaches are perpetually windy and the sand often stings due to this.
not an exciting place overall compared to Maui...after seeing the beaches and sand dunes up north and a few rock formations, there's not much sightseeing to do.
lots of cruise daytrippers, trinket shops in town, generic food such as KFC/McD's/Pizza Hut.
Synopsis:
Aruba is a great getaway for those looking to unwind on a beach with guaranteed good weather all year long, especially if the goal is to "vegetate and decompress".
Compared to Maui, it's unattractive and lacks variety of things to do, and not a lot in the way of nice hotel/restaurant choices.
If it's Maui VERSUS Aruba, Maui winds by a big landslide. If you're looking for an alternative type of vacation as outlined above, Aruba can be a very nice getaway.

Mr. Memory-Quit being a sarcastic jerk! This question routinely gets asked here! IF people would do a TEXT search on the subject they are looking for information on, the same questions would not be asked over and over again! Seems there are VERY few people on this forum with ANY common sense and intelligence!
