afaik After your job ends, you have 30 days to be out of the country or find another job that sponsors you.
Your child's status is dependent on yours, not independent of it.

Hello Everyone, I work as an International Admission Director for a private boarding school. Many private boarding schools in the U.S. are looking for international students. These schools supply the F-1 visa for students. The cost ranges from $40 - 60K each year, so it is a costly choice. Most of these schools are college preparatory where the students will attend in hopes of getting into strong universities. For the student whose father's visa will expire, an option is to enroll your child in a boarding school for the last year. For the 12th grade applicant (who is long gone), an option would be to apply to schools who accept 12th grade applications (which will be fewer than desired).
