anyone taken train philly-pittsburgh OR dc-pittsburgh?

I'm juggling options of how to get from Baltimore-Pittsburgh. I could fly but I thought for a change it might be interesting (although longer, but I don't mind if I see some pleasant countryside) to take the train.

Has anybody taken either train on this forum? Is the scenery breathtaking, pleasant or mostly uninteresting (i.e. Pocono mountains, etc)? Once arrived in Pittsburgh, is the train station (seems pretty central on the map) well-served by taxi?

Thanks. Dan.

My brother used to take the train all the time from Pgh to DC and back. I can't recall exactly but I think the downside was very inconvenient departure times and I believe one way was during the night so no views. But, since it was inexpensive and he had an unreliable car, it worked for him.

I'd fly--I think the train is routed through Philly and takes about 6,000 hours. You could probably bike to Pittsburgh faster.

By the way, it's only a 4-hour drive, and an easy one at that.

If it's not too late for more feedback - I've taken Amtrak from Philly to Pittsburgh and enjoyed the trip. Very relaxing. Most scenic part goes through Amish country and is lovely. Takes about 8 hours. Don't know about cabs on arrival as I was picked up, but I can't imagine they wouldn't be available -- Pittsburgh was very visitor-friendly.
