Anyone stayed at Williamsburg Woodlands?

We're going to Williamsburg the last week of May and can't decide where to stay. We'd like to stay at the new Woodlands at the Visitor's Center for convenience, but at $130 a night it's $50 higher than the Governor's Inn, Best Western and Hampton. If anyone has stayed at the Woodlands recently, aside from the convenience, is the extra $50 worth it? Thanks.

Randa, We stayed there last August and were very pleased. Remember, a buffet breakfast is included in the cost. For us with a family of 4 it saves a lot of money right there. Also, for me, I really liked being within walking distance of the Historic District. My kids get sick of walking around there and are older, so we let them stay at the Woodlands and mini-golf while we walked to the historic district. To me it's well worth it.

Save the money on dinner instead. Don't bother spending lots of money at the Taverns, the food is only OK. Instead go the very inexpensive and delicious Pierce's Pitt barbecue. The best. It's a locals and Truckers mecca, VERY casual but boy oh boy is it yummy, and cheap!

I also recommend staying at the Woodlands. Besides the close proximity to the Historic District, there's lots for kids to do on-site, outdoors, like mini golf, ping pong, horseshoes, etc. I disagree about the Taverns -- the food is very good in my opinion but what's best is the atmosphere, with the costumed servers--it completes the Williamsburg experience. I would say don't waste your time at the Cascades restaurant on-site at the Woodlands -- now that's mediocre.

Thanks for your positive responses. I'm sure that's where we'll be staying. We have a 10 and 12-year old who will make much use of the on-site recreation. One thing though, Renee if you're reading: When I called to check on rates they said a continental breakfast was included; didn't say a thing about a buffet! Guess we can't be that lucky!

It's a continental buffet, no eggs but lots of cereal, bagels, danish, juice, fruit and yogurt. Plenty of variety and all you can eat.
