Anyone stayed at the Villa Royale in Palm Springs?
Any comments if you did so? Was it reasonably close to airport?
Since hotels are so much higher where we live, it's hard for me to judge a reasonable price.
I like the sound of courtyard, fireplace, fountain etc. This would only be for one night.

Dear hoping:
I have not stayed at the Villa Royale but was considering it for a recent trip to PS. We ended up staying at the Rendezvous, which turned out to be great.
Which airport? PS is not that big, so the airport is not that far from anything.
If I had to do it over, I would stay closer to the cute downtown area. There are several "historic" motel/B&B's within 2 blocks of the main street. Restaurants and shopping are handier. Villa Royale is a bit from this area.
Some of the places we thought were nice and handy to restaurants were the Coyote Inn, Old Ranch Inn, Casa Cody. Plus the area seemed to be a little quieter than where we stayed. Our motel, the Rendezvous was great, but on a busier street.
When are you going?

I agree with Michelle's comments on the location. Others to consider are the Chase, and the Desert Hills Hotel.

I guess I should do my trip report!!
We picked up a booklet called "Historic Inns of Palm Springs" and did our own mini-tour of several motels/inns just west of Palm Canyon Drive, between Arenas Road & Baristo.
These sites put out this booklet:
www.palm-springs.org and www.smallhotelsofpalmsprings.com
Good luck,

Dear hoping:
All these places mentioned above are small remodeled 1940 ish motels or inns. Very cool places.
Another, but in a much higher price point is the The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn.
We stayed at the Rendezvous. It was built about 1950. Remodeled by the new owners about 3 years ago. Themed rooms and great breakfast & cocktail hour. We had the all pink, Marilyn Monroe room. Neighbors had the "Crooners" room. We liked this place alot, but a little further from the main downtown and on a busier street (more traffic noise).
I am sure Villa Royale would be great too.
Check Tripadvisor. Lots of positive comments.

Someone also mentioned Casa Cody.
Unfortunately we fly in on a Sat evening to stay one night then on to another place. It's looking like most of these cute little places want a 2 night minimum on a weekend. I may be forced to go someplace like the Marriott Courtyard, which someone said is not in a very good neighborhood.
However, if the economy is bad, I've thought about trying to get somewhere to 'bend' the 2-night minimum.

Well that is some major missing information isn't it! Of course (especially in season) they are not going to give up the Saturday night except perhaps at the very last minute. I would use a booking website like Expedia to check availability on your specific date and tell us what is available.
Am I assuming then you are not renting a car and want a taxi to the hotel? I wouldn't stay at the southern part of town for one night.
Closer to the Palm Springs Village you might try Best Western Las Brisas, not upscale but a great location and it consistently gets good reviews. they should be available for a Saturday only stay.

Currently planning: the night we fly in have booked Las Brisas, then 9 days later before we fly out we will have 2 nights at the Villa Royale. Sorry to miss Casa Cody, but there's always another trip someday.
The point of the trip was a 3-night special at Shadow Ridge. Anyone stayed there? Other than sandwich bars do they have restaurants at the resort?

Restaurants onsite are fairly limited. This is a timeshare project, so the units have kitchens in them. There is a mixed grill in the clubhouse, a poolside bar and grill as well as a market where you can buy sandwiches.
The nice thing is that this property is very centrally located in Palm Desert and there are a ton of choices at all levels not too far.
I think you'll be pleased with this place.
I realize you arrived today.
Our weather is wild and woolly now and will be for a few days. Sorry about that. Blame El Nino...

PSLocal, yes, I've been watching the weather on TV. We go the end of Feb.
Good to know about the kitchens at Shadow Ridge. DH finds too many excuses to eat expensive meals on trips. Sounds like we could incorporate Sherman's Deli and a grocery store into the trip!
We spent 1970-73 in San Diego, and my memory of January winters was a bit of grey drizzle sometimes and 60 degree weather.
However, we currently have 22" of snow in our yard in AK.

Nick Faldo's Bar & Grill is the clubhouse restaurant at the Shadow Ridge, and it is okay for "pub-style" food. The pool-side restaurants are quite expensive.
Very close to your resort, at the corner of Monterey & Country Club, is a very nice Bristol Farms grocery store that has great prepared take-away meals in addition to other goodies to stock your condo kitchen. It's a little pricey, but worth it, IMO. Also, between the freeway and your resort is a Super Walmart, for more reasonably priced groceries.
Are you at the Shadow Ridge Enclaves, or the main resort? A standard guest room or villa? Some of the guest rooms/studios have very limited kitchens, just a microwave, small refrigerator and coffeemaker. The villas have full kitchens.
I hope the weather improves for you.
