Anyone know anything about Saginaw MI?

My sister & husband are moving to Saginaw, can anyone tell me anything about it? Where could you fly into to get there? Thank you.

I lived in Saginaw for one year, while working in Reese, MI. Saginaw is a quiet, blue-color town. They have saved some beautiful river-front areas for parks and jogging trails. The downtown has all but died, yet there is a decent mall at the other end of town. You would fly into Flint-Bishop airport, where there are usually better deals to be had there than if you were to fly into and out of Detroit.

I found it to be a quiet town, close to Bay City (which I liked better) and close to Frankenmuth - a touristy German destination. There is also a lot of agricultural jobs in the area. It is known to be a part of the 'tri-cities' of Saginaw, Bay City, and Flint.

A great restaurant in Bay City is Terry and Jerry's O' Solomio (sp?). Nothing fancy, just great food in a restaurant that has been serving Italian food for years. You also might enjoy Dow Gardens in Midland - another neighboring city.

Happy Trails,
Paul

Thank you for the info. How long is the drive from Flint airport to Saginaw? I don't know exactly where they will be living, he just got the job this week. Any areas they should stay out of? I appreciate it. Thank you.

That poster was pulling your leg on one little point and brushed over another. The downtown area is dead and is crime and filth ridden. The east side of the river and most of Saginaw is not a good area.

Move out to the township if you have to live in the Saginaw area. The rest of the info is pretty accurate.

My brother just(1 year ago) moved out of Saginaw to Madison, WI. Sorry about the negatives on Saginaw, but its just the reality of the situation. The big shame with Saginaw and for lesser parts Bay City is the people with money have not reinvested it in the city like you can find in other cities.

Saginaw gets GM execs with money, but are only there a short time and no money is put back into the city.

Midland has the Dow's who have made huge investemnts, Grand Rapids on the other side of the state had the VanAndels and the DeVos's as benefactors.

Back to your question of me. I have not decided on my November trip. I will be taking the ferry across Lake Michigan in a couple of weeks and making a tour north thru Green Bay,WI to the upper peninsula of Michigan.

I will probably do some hiking at the Porcupine Mountains on Lake Superior and then work over to Marquette, MI, which just happens to be one of my favorite little towns for a couple of days of relaxation. From there I will work my way home in time for the start of High School football season here on August 30th.

The Florida Keys or Hawaii are my current favorites for November.

My sister's husband has been out of work for 3months (hotel business), so I guess he is taking what he can get. They are moving there from Indy. I live in San Diego, I just thought I'd ask out here for the info.
I've never been to the Keys, but HI twice & love it! Hope to get back next fall. I have a 2yr old, so it limits our travel plans anymore. Have a nice trip & thanks again for the info.
