anyone flown Island Air in HI?
Is anyone familiar with Island Air in the Hawaiian islands? I am looking for nonstop flights from Maui to Kauai, and only Island Air seems to have non-stop. I have flown Aloha and Hawaiian, but am not familiar with Island Air. Just want to make sure it's a decent airline before I book.

Island Air is a subsidiary of Hawaiian. They fly twin engine turboprop airplanes. I fly them into West Maui airport whenever possible to avoid the hassle of OGG. I enjoy the flights as they are low and slow and the scenery is much better than in a jet. The weather is usually pretty nice so turbulance isn't an issue.

Count us in as mentioned they are a little slower but since they don't have to fly as high as the jets the actual flight times are about the same. We found for the best sightseeing either sit in front of the wing or in the rear of the cabin. I don't recall what the weight restrictions were they may have changed anyway but if you handcheck your heaviest bag you get around some of it.

Island Air was a subsidary of Aloha Airlines (not hawaiian).
But, they are an independent airline now (since 2004).
Their main advantage is that they can fly into the smaller airports.
Their main disadvantage is that there are few flights between destinations and if there is any kind of a delay, there is not much you can do about it.

OUR PARTY OF EIGHT FLEW OAHU TO WEST MAUI AND BACK LAST MARCH. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME IN A TURBO PROP, BUT ALL WAS WELL,I THINK WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE ON THE PLANE! IT WAS A JOY FLYING OUT OF WEST MAUI. I WOULDN'T HESITATE TO FLY ISLAND AIR AGAIN, ESPECIALLY TO BE ABLE TO FLY IN AND OUT OF WEST MAUI AIRPORT.

Island air is said to have the best views on their flights. Advantage of getting a direct flight to and from certain islands is nice...however if you are booking in advance be aware they may have many schedule changes. I had a customer booked for 210pm , it got changed to 1155am, and the latest change was 720am , upon trying to change it, they didn't have that 210pm flight anymore so I canceled it and rebooked them on hawaiian.
I think that is the only disadvantage, but if you are booking in advance. If there is a schedule change, because of the limited flights, you may have no choice, other than that I say book it! No complaints from any of my customers!
