Anyone EVER Stayed in a Really Nice Days Inn?

Not quite a Days Inn, but this past Friday nite we stayed at a Best Western in Carlsbad NM that was a treat. The room was HUGE, the king size bed was comfy, the pillows fluffy, and the bathroom area was large. And for $59.00 (Govt rate). Next door was the "No Whiners Diner" which was another treat. An old fashioned kind of diner with good food and excellent service.

Days Inn is my least favorite hotel chain. The last time I stayed at one, there was a mouse in my room. I went to the front desk and told them and their response was, "We'll put a trap in the room." Gee, certainly having a dead mouse will be so much better than a live one. I wrote to Days Inn HQ and their only response was that they had decided to rescind that property's accredidation with Days Inn after receiving numerous complaints like mine.

The Days Inns I've stayed in were all the same: it was a decent, no-frills, clean room with a bed, a shower, and a television--a place to rest and clean up in while on a long road trip.
The only exception was a Days Inn we stayed at in Columbus, near Ohio State University, two years ago--what a dump! You could tell it had once been a lousy little motel that the Days Inn folks had just slapped a (thin) coat of paint on and put their name up on it. But by and large, they're all the same--not somewhere you'd go if you were on a nice vacation, that's for sure!

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at was a Days Inn across the street from the Peabody in Memphis, TN.
The washcloths had this gray/black look to them. Somehow they became white AFTER you used them. I still feel gross thinking about it.
Bed was bad, it was noisy, and the people at the front desk were much more enthused about talking to one another and having a good time than helping me.
Luckily, the last time I was through Memphis, I noticed that it is no longer a Days Inn....hopefully, things have gotten better.

OK...maybe not 350 count sheets (I have had 200 and less at 5 star hotels), but marble baths and other amenities unusual for Days Inn (or for that matter, for any roadside accommodations) are to be found at their WON-derful facility in Victoria on Vancouver Island. I was astonished! As nice a room as I have stayed in anyplace except for resort type and 'name' places. Please don't laugh at me unless you have been there and seen the place.

Sure have - Days Inn in Savannah, Ga. - 210 West Bay Street - 1-800-325-2525. Convenient to the Historic Center - good parking - large suite complete with kichen - very nice desk - $70 per night. Have stayed here several times since the later 1990s, and never a complaint.

Actually, I have stayed at a number of Days Inn and found them to be fine. The Days Inn at the Denver Airport is a no frills, clean and affordable motel as is the one in Grand Junction Colorado. My wife just stayed in one in Oklahoma City and said it was just fine. We have also stayed at various Best Westerns, Ramadas, Comfort Inns, etc and they are about the same as the Days Inn. You don't pay much and you don't get much but they are generally clean and nice for a night or two.

We THOUGHT we had found a decent Day's Inn at Tucson, and after a great night's sleep we were ready to tell everyone that the bad publicity Day's Inn gets was totally unjustified. Then we made our mistake. The morning we checked out we asked them to look after our bags while we did some sightseeing... at that time we hadn't settled the account. When we returned in the afternoon, they refused to accept the agreed-on rate which we had been quoted by Travelocity and which we had shown them, without comment, at check-in. The boss refused to speak to us, relaying his instructions from his office to the desk clerk, and proceeded to blame, first, us, then Travelocity, then the computer system. But the desk clerk remained adamant....we'd have to pay more than the booking sheet said. Finally, since we had a bus to catch, we gave in.... and our emails to Travelocity never got a reply. So we have sworn off Day's Inn (like many other people!)

We've found Best Western to have just about the best quality standards of the mid-range chains.
The Days Inn that we stayed in, in Rockland Massachusetts, was very, very nice.
I don't think it is still a member of the Days Inn chain however. Probably exceeded the Days Inn standards and was booted out of the system.
