Anyone booked any vacations recently?
Yesterday, we booked out 7 night vacation to Maui next month. Found an excellent DEAL!! Could'nt pass this one up.
Has anyone booked any vacations since 9/11/01? Found any good deals?
Our Travel agent said travel is WAY down!!

I tried finding a good deal for a cruise next July and was shocked at the high prices I was quoted. Apparently the travel industry is short sighted and not planning ahead for continued fears of the traveling public. We have to plan trips ahead, we cannot take advantage of last minute deals. Any ideas on where discounts are for next year?

Same thing here...
I looked at prices for next year to Hawaii for my honeymoon, and they were still sky high. I even checked out a trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas, and a Vegas getaway. No price change at all. I really cannot imagine traveling though.
I can't fathom that the prices will stay this way. For as many people out there that say these horrific tragedies will not affect their travel planes, I hear 10x the amount of responses which state that people plan on staying very close to home, even if they do not live in New York or D.C. Everyone all over this beautiful country is fearful, and has good reason. All of my family and friends, and co-workers do not want to travel anymore.
Especially considering that people are STILL getting through security with boxcutters, scissors, etc. This does not make me feel any better.
For me, there is no incentive to travel. I know that the statistics are greater of getting in a car accident, or having cancer, but the times have changed, and we have shown how weak we are. There are still many, many more terrorist cells left in this country. They will not do anything now, but I am concerned when the time comes that we all feel relaxed. Already, everyone is tiring of the media blitz, and focusing on other things, which we well should. BUT, it is when we are not looking, and feeling comfortable again that they will strike, and they will strike again. They do not care, and have shown that.
I and my family and friends are trying to get on (we all live in NYC), but it is hard. The government and the airline industry (who should be paying their employees more $$, so maybe they will take their jobs more seriously) will have to prove to me for A LONG TIME, that they are getting things under control, before I step on an airplane.
Until then, I will stay relatively close to home, enjoy what my region has to offer, and pray that nothing else happens again.
God Bless you all. I look forward to hearing some other responses, so that we may voice our feelings and opinions.

My family member who is a manager at a travel agency told me to wait a week or two to see what happens before I book anything for the winter months. He said that if they dont start making money by next week they prices are going to go down for after the holidays.
I was looking on Dream Maps on Yahoo and they will give you the maps of countries and the best deals right now. If you click on the city it gives you all the info.
Expedia had some good deals but not great yet.
also, try www.site59.com for some good packages last minute deals.

I booked a seven night trip to Jamaica for Spring Break week before last. Took a while to get a good price, but finally got the whole trip for two for under $2200.
I've been looking at airfares to Europe and they look really good. Air to London is usually low, but I've seen it for an exceptional $300 recently.

Hope everyone got travel insurance. I keep reading scores of letters from people who've lost their shirts
through companies going bankrupt and ceasing operation. On my next trip I'll book it 60 days or less before I go and put it on my credit card. At least I'll have some security knowing if someone goes bankrupt I can get my money back. I usually book my trips a year in advance but with so much happening in this country right now,I don't dare.
Right now I hold tickets for US Airways for December and their fate still remains to be seen. Good Luck
to you all!!
