Anyone been to Tunica Mississippi for gambling?

Attention gamblers: I hear that Tunica Mississippi is the third largest gambling destination (behind the giants Las Vegas and Atlantic City). Though I never hear it mentioned on this board. Has anyone been there, what is it like? Where is the best casino? Any places with $2.00 blackjack?

We go a lot. I'll have to wait for my husband to find out about the blackjack tables, but I think I remember his saying it's hard to find a $5 table, so there may not be any $2 ones. It's difficult to really distinguish one casino from another...we always just like whichever ones we win in! The nicest hotel/casino there in my opinion is Gold Strike. Unlike Las Vegas, you'll do a lot of driving. The casinos are clumped 3 to a group, then you have to drive quite a way to get to another group. The Grand is also a nice and in addition to the casino, has several hotels on the property.

Susan is right, you do have to drive around a lot in Tunica because the casinos are grouped together in little clusters with a lot of flat, empty land between them. It's kind of weird because it's not a city really like LV or AC or Reno -- it's more like casinos have been plopped down in the middle of nowhere.

The casinos aren't highly themed like they are in Vegas -- they're more along the lines of the casinos in Tahoe. Once you get inside them they look like casinos just about anywhere. I play mostly slots and I like the Sam's Town/Hollywood/Harrah's cluster, though I also enjoy playing at Fitzgerald's and the Isle of Capri. I find that Hollywood and Isle of Capri seem to be the first to get the latest machines and you can often find games there that aren't in Vegas.

There are buffets at all the big casinos, but they don't compare to the ones in Vegas. Also you don't really get the (relatively) attentive service that you get most places in Vegas. Most of the Tunica casino employees make little or no effort whatsoever. I'm just telling you this ahead of time because I think if you go in expecting bad service, you won't mind it so much.

The other thing to keep in mind is that there's really nothing else to do in Tunica other than gamble.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Tunica when I feel like going for a quick casino weekend, but it doesn't compare at all to Vegas. Whether you would enjoy it or not depends on what you're looking for.

We visited Tunica recently and It does not compare with Biloxi, Mississippi. The casinos and hotels are very nice at Biloxi. The Beau Rivage is owned by the same group that owns Bellargio in Vegas. There are always good shows in Biloxi. The food is good, Even though the casino are all along the coast road, there are shuttle buses that take you to each casino. There is more to do in Biloxi. My husband says there are $2.00 tables in Biloxi. In Tunica we stayed at The Gold Strike Hotel and it was nice. Hope this information is helpful.

Imagine driving through the beautiful Mississippi floodplain and then BOOOOOOM!

It's casinos.

Expect a bunch of smelly low-life trash.

But it's a casino. (what do you expect)

Casinos are a tax on idiots
