When I travel to more exotic locales, I usually take a peek at the government travel advice sites as they usually give you a good idea of what's going on there. I suggest www.state.gov, click on travel advice... and the Brits have an excellent version, www.fco.gov.uk, click on travel to get the general rundown, then click on travellers tips to get more specific advice from the local consulate.

Hi... I live in Kuwait and have been to Oman several times. It is a nice place with some of the most beautiful scenery in the Gulf. Kuwait is dry and mostly flat without any fresh water of it's own (thanks to Saddam drying up the marshes from the Tigris River) while Oman has rivers and rainforests and beautiful cliffs by the sea. The people are warm and friendly. There is not much to do there but I'm sure Shell has a nice "compound" for their employees so life will most likely be very good (not to mention he'll be making loads of money I'm sure!). Take care and good luck. I wish your son all the best.

Thank you for the information. I didn't post this on the Middle East board because you just don't get as many responses. I thought someone from the United States might have some experience traveling or living there. However, I may post again on the Middle East board.Thank you.
