any recent stays at Embassy suites, San Diego

Does anyone have any recent experience with the Embassy Suites on Pacific Highway in San Diego? The most recent review under "rants and raves" is from May of 2003 and it does not make me want to stay there! Also- is this a good location for seeing the sights- we will have a car but was wondering about restaurants, shopping etc. within walking distance.

have not stayed there, only attended a few meetings. seems like a nice enough place from the lobby .

The location is excellent, whether you have a car or not. You have the bayfront and Seaport Village across the street (tourist shops), and you're next door to a Trolley station (light rail public transit) that will take you to the Gaslamp/Ballpark District, Old Town, the border, and shopping at Fashion Valley. The #7 bus line terminates in front of the hotel which will take you to the zoo and Balboa Park.
If you have a car, a quick shot out of the parking garage onto Pacific Hwy will lead you to the 5 and access to other freeways.
Good luck.

I've stayed there twice -- the last time was about three years ago, so I can't really speak to its current condition.

I did think it was a great location for getting around San Diego and visiting the sights via car or public transportation. I don't recall a beach right nearby, if that's important, but Seaport Village is across the street and offers good views of the harbor. There are plenty of dining and shopping options within walking distance.

We stayed there and it is in a great location for using the Trolly and for walking to Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp District. We thought it was just as nice as most other Embassies.
