Hi everyone,
I am new, I just logged in today on 9/24/2006 because I was looking for fall foliage info. Next month I am going to Woodstock, NY (Catskill area) and the surrounding towns of Hyde Park, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, etc. to enjoy the fall foliage, antique shops, Mohonk Mountain House, and eat in the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park.
I am planning to go to Charleston, S.C. and Lake County, Fl. in November to see friends and relatives if everything works out all right and I can make the trip.
I have been a member of tripadvisor.com for a long time and decided to try another site, I'm glad i found this one.

Well, howdy Bunnicula! So glad to meet you! <)
You are hereby granted the title of "Fodorite"! Just having posted on this site gives you this honor!
GTG = get together (lunch, dinner, movies, whatever)! Many times you'll see a GTG planned for a particular area of the world, Paris, Houston, New Jersey - wherever. How 'bout starting one in Kentucky? I'm sure we've got plenty of folks hungry to meet you!
And a fine welcome to you, too, jeena! Glad to have you on board!

Thanks for the nice welcomes, and yes I love to write about places I have visited, and will cerainly keep you posted! I am looking forward to the NY fall foliage trip upstate next month, I understand you can see six states from the top of Mohonk Mountain if the weather is clear. I hope the foliage cooperates this year. I was going to stay in a bed and breakfast but decided against it because you need to reserve in advance, and if you need to cancel (I probably would if the foliage doesn't pan out), you could be stuck paying for the entire reservation or part of it, so i decided to stay in a hotel which allows cancellations on the day of arrival.

Jeena, your trip sounds wonderful. We will miss most of the fall foliage this year (we'll be in Egypt) but I have always wanted to go to New England and the like for the fall. We have pretty foliage here in Michigan, but it's nice to see other areas as well. Please post a trip report when you return...I'd love to hear all about it!

I'm kind of new to the U.S. board. I started on the Aisa board about a year ago for out trip to Japan.
I wandered over here some time in spring. I have been made to feel very welcome over here.
Thanks!
Does a trip to Minneapolis for Thanksgiving count?

I've just been on this site for a few days now. I actually found it quite by accident, while doing an internet search on some things I wanted to learn about here in North Carolina.
Some of the posts caught my attention, and I couldn't stop reading or resist the urge to answer a few of the topics I saw. Since I play in the mountains constantly, I figured I could suggest a few great places to visit for anyone headed in this direction while traveling.
But, I've got to admit, leahinsc has great knowledge of this area and lots of good avice to offer. All I can say is that each of her posts I've read are right on the money. My expertise lies more in outdoor activities, hiking, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway, etc.
There's so much to do and see here that I often say that I live in a postcard. I can't possibly see it all in one lifetime, but I'd love suggestions from some of the other Fodorites who live in the area and know of great places to visit.

stevebarr~ your post struck a cord with me. I was born and raised mostly in Alaska, but have yet to cover so many areas and activities..
I have reviewed old posts and found ideas for so much outside my area, but I know there are the cruise experts, motorhomes, fishing, etc., that advise others on things I have not done or have limited second hand knowledge of...
The last new experience I had as a resident was a biking trip in a part of the state popular with many between Anchorage and Fairbanks.
I find the other posts most helpful with restaurant recommendations vs. books or online reviews.. nothing is better than someone who has been there recently I think.
Thanks for your post. It's always nice to see someone new participate. J.
