Any Must Sees between Kansas City & Denver??

We will be traveling between Kansas City and Denver on I-70 at the end of this month and we wondered if anyone has any recommendations of places we must visit. Any restaurants, attractions, etc.?? Would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

Abilene is the home and burial site of President Eisenhower, and has a nice musuem dedicated to his memory. There are also several Victorian homes along its streets.

Lawrence has the University of Kansas with a couple of small museums.

Between Salina and Denver, there's nothing but a long and DREARY drive.

Just across the border of KS City in Independence, Missouri is the Harry Truman National Historic Site ~ it's wonderful! (As are ALL the Presidential homes and libraries.)

The first little town in Colorado is Burlington ~ and they have an "Old Towne" museum, which is...ok....but you'll then be in Mountain time! (Actually, I think the time change is in Goodland, KS - the Best Western Buffalo Inn there has a nice indoor pool.

Also, the tiny town of Limon has some a few antique shoppes....

Worlds largest ball of twine in Cocker (sp? but pronounced Cocker) City, KS. Believe it or not, a town/city in Iowa claims they have the largest ball of twine. And who says we don't have any thing to brag about in KS? PS: It is a very large ball of twine (string for you city folks).

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have been to the Truman Museum in Independence but have not been to the other recommendations. We appreciate your help.

Fort Riley near Wichita, Kansas is the Home of The Cavalry. The US Cavalry Association has a wonderful museum on post, plus the cavalry stables. If you are into horses or military history, it is a treat.

One of the most brain-numbing drives I have ever completed. My advice is to speed thru as fast as possible and find civilization at either end.

I wouldn't call this a must see. But, for a little diversion, there is a small town south of Salina, called Lindsborg. The town is themed around it's Scandinavian residents, especially Swedes. There are many stores with unusual imports and at least two traditional Smorgsbords in town.

Thanks so much for the info on the Swedish town. I am of Swedish descent and I did hear at one time about a Swedish town so will look forward to stopping there. I appreciate all the info everyone has given me.

Have been to Lindsborg a few times and if you have some Swedish heritage, you should probably stop. You might enjoy a short drive through the town -- most of the older two-story homes have been painted/trimmed in interesting colors. Many have damal (sp?) horse signs -- and there's a cute bigger horse downtown (photo op).

Bethany College is also located there. The nickname is "Swedes" and the colors are (drumroll) . . . blue and yellow!

Have also enjoyed the Eisenhower Center at Abilene. Also along the road there is the a Russell Stover factory outlet -- free samples and sale-priced chocolates.

There's no Iowa town that's ever laid claim to largest ball of twine. There is a Minnesota town that used to have a big ball of twine, but don't know if it still exists. We did have the largest popcorn ball but it was rotting and so they blew it up at a county fair.

Are you kidding? That whole area is a barren wasteland!
