Any info on water quality on Oahu?

I'm heading out there on Saturday and I remember that there was a big sewage spill a few months back. I haven't read anything recently. Does anyone know the deal or of a website that posts that kind of info?

I don't know about a website, but as far as I know, the water is safe. I jog at Ala Moana Beach Park 3-4 times a week and I see people swimming & fishing. We also had a big triathlon as far back as May 14 and it was fine.

I was on Waikiki last week and hundreds (thousands?) of people were in the water (including me).

Funny Waldo, I just don't like to swim in poo, I don't know about you. I also heard that tourists don't always know what's going on with sewage spills and frequent the water while locals avoid it. So thanks for the post Melissa.

It may be true that us tourists are clueless, but in today's America, where people love love love to sue, I have a hard time believing the city would let you swim if there was actual health risk. Can you imagine the lawsuits if tens of thousands of tourists got e.coli or whatever else you could get in polluted water?

Christy, the City can do little except advise.
Advise they did; back during the spill there were plenty of photos in local papers etc showing tourists ignoring the posted warnings.

You might check local newspaper & TV sites, e.g. here's one from May 5: http://starbulletin.com/2006/05/05/news/story09.html
