Any efficient, inexpensive transfers in Vegas?

I am headed to the following hotel this week and would love to save a few bucks in the transfers.
I ALWAYS get hosed by Vegas cab drivers. They always do it and get away with it because it is difficult to argue with them... they basically have me hostage and I just have to pay.
The last time I was there I took a map and asked them to follow my route exactly. That was only time I did not get the run around. I really, really dislike Las Vegas cab drivers. They are a bunch of crooks.
My flight arrives at 3pm on Wednesday.
What would be the best route to get to the hotel at 4pm on a Wednesday?

Hilton Grand Vacations Club on the Las Vegas Strip
2650 Las Vegas Blvd South
Las Vegas, NV 89109

Thanks!

http://www.lasvegas.com/transportation/shuttles.html

Just remember, the shuttles will be cheaper for 1 or 2 passengers but after that they lose their advantage. Also, it will take longer to get to your hotel as most if not all will be stopping at other hotels on the way.

Taxi, private car, or a limo will be more expensive but will get you there much quicker.

Your decision.....

Thanks AA for the info.
It's funny, I can easily afford the fare. It's the point of it. I am tired of these crooks.
I obviously have an intense dislike for Vegas cab drivers. I don't care much for Vegas to begin with... the cab issue really is icing on the cake.
For the heck of it, I just checked out "Long Hauling" in Las Vegas.
I had no clue it was such a problem!

Most airports have a taxi concierge (or whatever you want to call the person) so ask them what the charge should be, a least a ball park figure. Make them write the taxi number down and give it to you. In cases when they tell you that another route may be more convenient, and it very well may be, then tell them you don't care as long as the final price stays the same. If it doesn't then make the doorperson at the hotel write down the taxi number again and don't pay and insist on police being called. I realize it's a pain but sometimes necessary. You be amazed how quickly the drivers are willing to settle for the "honest" fare.....

This is a good article.
Other articles point to this one and say things have not changed one bit.

I think I will take a shuttle.
I have the luxury of time on this trip. I am in no hurry at all.

Not all L.V. taxi drivers are cheats. I talked to the honest one yesterday morning when I left the Rio for LAS.

He suggested that if you have a problem with the fare, that if the driver takes a roundabout trip, that you should just pay the fair price. If the driver objects then just tell him to call the taxi authority and that you will wait there with him until the TA person arrives.

He also suggested that you tell the taxi driver to call the dispatch and ask them how much the correct fare is between the two points. He knows that they will give the correct price.

There is a guy at the end of the taxi line at McCarran airport that tells you which taxi to take. The taxis come in a pack of 14 at a time and parallel park at the curb, the guy tells you which parking spot to stand next to. Definitely would be a good idea to ask him what the fare is, as AAFF suggested. You can also call the hotel and ask.

I am not sure of the fare to the HGVC but it should be around $15 and it is really a no-brainer straight shot from the airport down Paradise Road. To other locations the driver could have a point about not going on a particular route, some have their preferred shortcuts. But there really isn't any option for where you are going and it is not bad.

But, after you get in the taxi and tell the driver your destination, tell him that you want to go "the back way". He probably would have. But the other way, "thru the tunnel", is much further.

I use the Show Time shuttle.

Call me crazy, but I just don't feel I should have to go to all that trouble to keep from being taken advantage of.
I will have a checked bag that will need to be placed in the trunk.
That shifts the balance of power to the cabbie

I just noticed that you are at the HGVC on the stip. I gave directions to the HGVC on Paradise Road, next to the Hilton Hotel.

It is a bit more complicated to get to the place on the strip. You still want to go the back way.

You are right, you should not be ripped off.

Actually, those shuttles do accommodate luggage. I've seen several people have their luggage loaded on the shuttle. The driver loads it in the back.

Just think twice before going with the four foot eleven, 350 lb. dork with the van.
I had him last spring and he was sweating profusely, and his stomach pressed into the wheel, and I prayed he wouldn't pass out on the SHORT drive to the MGM. J.

The comment about the luggage was a little unclear.
I meant that because I will have luggage, the cab driver has the upper hand.
You argue, they delay getting your luggage. You want your luggage, so you just pay the jacked up fare.

I'll be sure to see which shuttle driver looks most capable, Jet!
