Annapolis/DC weekend questions

We are going to visit my sister in Annapolis. She hasn't been to DC in a while and we would like to go visit the new WWII memorial. What is the best way to get into DC without driving? Also any suggestions of restaurants in Annapolis or Fells Point, Baltimore? Not interested in chains but would love some great crab cakes. We tried to get a reservation for Thames Oyster House but they are booked solid the day we want. TIA

Google bus service Annapolis to Washington, DC. There are many options because so many people commute by bus. The best option for you will depend on where you are starting. There are also commuter buses to Baltimore, etc.

If you are truly without a car, you are out of luck, but we often stop at Harris Crab House in Kent Narrows when we drive between Richmond and Boston. I wouldn't try dinner on a weekend, but it's fine for lunch and you can explore the Eastern Shore for the afternoon.

What I don't know is where to find the kind of crab cake that is pretty much just crab, seasoning, and mayonnaise. The market in St Michael's has fantastic ones, but they are meant to take out to cook at home.

Let us know if you find gold!

I'm bookmarking this post. I took Dillon's Bus a number of years ago from New Carrollton metro (my parents live on the Orange Line in Virginia) to Annapolis, but it was only during commuting hours that it ran. I'm interested to see what options are recommended now.

Are you without a car or do you not want to drive a car into DC?

My DH attended a conference in Annapolis a couple of weeks ago and used Young Transportation Service which he picked up at the New Carrollton metro station. He chose it over Dillon b/c he was returning to DC on a Saturday morning and Young, unlike Dillon, has weekend service. But like Dillon it's primarily a commuter schedule limited to mornings going away from Annapolis and afternoon returns.

It sounds as if your plan is pretty near term and the Orange Line is operating but still check DC Metro's Safetrack maintenance schedule to make sure you aren't impeded. Travel w/in DC right now is largely running normally (tho much busier than normal during weekday rush) but some suburban and outer city stations are out of commission for maintenance.
