Anchorage to Seward

We are flying in to Anchorage around 9.00 pm and the next morning, will be driving from Anchorage to Seward and will be staying in Seward 3 nights.

What time should we leave in the morning from Anchorage?

What are the sights we should stop at on the way that we should not miss and we can easily do on the way?

Should we drive back to Girdwood for a day trip and what is there to do there other than the tram ride?

Since we are in Seward for 3 nights, what are the options for sight seeing once in Seward..

We are already booked for the 5 hr Renown Tour from Toursaver and plan on visiting Exit Glacier and the Sea Life Center.

From there we are headed to Homer for 3 days...

If the weather is good, time your departure so you can take the tram ride in Girdwood. We also enjoyed the visitors center at Portage Glacier. You will want to stop at various scenic spots. Also include time to watch the fishermen at Bird Creek (Seward Hwy crosses over the creek) and get a closer look at swimming salmon. You should still be in Seward in time for dinner.

No I would not be backtracking to Girdwood when you have plenty of time to see it on your way to Seward. I would leave by mid morning, and take your time. Consider a stop at Portage glacier visitor center, side trip to Hope, plus all the pull off stops on the Arm. Allow at least 4-5 hours, with the stops.

Plenty to see and do in Seward, request their visitor guide. www.sewardak.org

How much time are you spending in Anchorage? Will you arise on a weekday or weekend that first morning? If it's a weekday, at least wait till after morning traffic rush. Weekend shouldn't really matter. If you don't have more time in Anchorage, maybe leave early that morning to ride around Anchorage, then head off to Seward.

We loved the tram and Portage Glacier. You have lots of time in Seward, so don't get there too early that first day. What are you going to do with that time in Seward?

I vote for the 9.5 hr NW Glacier Kenai Fjords boat tour. Hiking Exit Glacier is a nice time. We didn't do much else there, but I feel like I'm forgetting something.

Adults and teens enjoyed Seavey's Ididaride just outside Seward. Loads of fun to see those huskies! Could do on the way in or out of Seward.
And I second the all-day Northwestern Fjord trip - it was a highlight for us.

The Seavey's Iditarod ride is great fun. Strongly recommend. Also the Kenai Fjord all day tour is the best. We saw so much sea life. Do not miss the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward. And the Exit Glacier.

That's what I forgot, the dogsledding and the Sea Life Center. Will you need 3 nights there, bokill? Yeah, I guess you'll need 2 full days.
