Anchorage restaurant help

Help! We'll be in Anchorage for one night prior to a cruise in August. For dinner, we'd thought we'd make complete pigs of ourselves and try a seafood buffet. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Try Simon's and ask for a table where you can see over the water. I don't think the really good restaurants in town have a "seafood buffet" per se. However, you can certainly order excellent seafood.

Club Paris is another excellent restaurant. No buffett. It's been around for ages and looks it but the staff and the food are amazing. I had halibut that tasted like lobster. Call ahead, it gets busy.
Have fun.

Don't know of a good buffet. Avoid the Sea Galley (although I haven't been there for years.)

Although my favorite restaurant is the Double Musky, if I had one meal that I wanted to be spectacular, I'd head to Seven Glaciers at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood south of town. It's a wonderful drive along one of the most beautiful streteches of road (you'll cover it on the way to the boat), then a ride up 2,000 vertical feet in a tram. Pricey but awesome view.

But if it's cloudy or rainy, go to plan B.

Club Paris is retro without trying. It's an old (very old by AK standards) standby, best known for steaks. Simon & Seafort has a better seafood menu. Glacier Brewhouse will probably get some recs here, too.

I love Club Paris. "I'll have a New York Steak and a flashlight" sort of place.

Meant to add, isn't there a seafood buffet at the Sheraton?

Notes for seafood lovers visiting Alaska:

The shellfish comes from far, far away from Anchorage. It's almost all harvested during the winter. Labor costs are very high in Alaska. Put it all together and it means that shellfish served in Anchorage in the summer is about as fresh as the shellfish served to you in the summer in Indianapolis. Only it's a lot more expensive.

Go to Glacier Bay Brewhouse and get some fresh halibut. YUM! The place is very popular for a good reason.

Thanks to everyone for your advice! I think we'll skip the buffet idea.

Thanks for bringing up the topic. Since Alaska is known for its wild salmon and halibut, where can I eat the best of these? Any sushi bars in Anchorage/Seward or restaurants that get good quality and fish and know how to cook them well? Thanks.

Any restaurant in downtown will have fresh, wild-caught salmon and halibut.

The Sheraton hotel has a sushi bar on weekends. It's pretty good...

I agree in Alaska you must do the halibut and Salmon. Fresh fresh fresh it was great.

Agree with avoid "Sea Galley". Last time I ate there, my seafood had a used band-aid on the plate.

Glacier Brewhouse. You can watch the beer being brewed and the food is fantastic.

I would chose Simon's over The Glacier Brewhouse. Prices are the same and you get a wonderful view and nicer atmosphere at Simon's.

Double Musky is GREAT and if you have transportation, I would go there! The drive is lovely and you can look for mountain goats along the way. Go up to Aleyska first and enjoy the cable car ride (2 for 1 coupons in tour saver book). Even though it is expensive, the portions are so huge at the Double Musky. You should share if you can decide on the same thing. We did not and had to leave half of our meals. We saw others sharing who had obviously been there before.
I hope you have a chance to eat Halibut...it tastes totally different in AK than what we get in the lower 48. But again, I am not aware of any good seafood buffet in Anchorage.
