Absolutely, positively try Priceline for Anchorage. Use www.biddingfortravel.com for guidelines. We save around 40-60% on car rentals in Anchorage.

Myself, I wouldn't lock into Priceline until a month or so out. But I have not see them accept rates as low as I have got direct. Like $129+++/week??? I rented from Alamo. But also look at Thrifty, Payless, Dollar, and independents (which I have had less than $25/day rates) All are listed www.anchorage.net Book NOW and keep checking-- a lot of price changes with car rentals and easy to cancel and rebook.

Sidepockets again. I failed to mention I checked on a full size car on 10 different places, all said save 40-75%, such as Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity and others. All have the same price as Alamo homepage, $490 total cost, ($180.50 @week before add ons) for 2 weeks. Didn't like the rules on Priceline, such as not knowing if car was on airport or somewhere else. I would like any info you can provide.

You are too early for the cheap rates. Keep checking back. But book a back up. I have INDEED gotten the rates I mention. But always with a compact car rental- sometimes upgraded to a midsized. No larger needed for 2 people and better on gas.
$180/week is not bad for a full size. A mentioned keep checking- the direct sites offer specials all the time. Be sure to add about 25% with taxes from the airport- less with a non airport rental.
