Ameritania Hotel in NY?

Does anyone know anything about the Ameritania Hotel at 54th and Broadway in Manhattan? We can get a room for $99 and $119. Is it next to Letterman show? Thanks so much!

Yes - it's just around the corner from Letterman. We have stayed there by default on our last 2 trips to NYC. The rooms were small and dark. The staff was less than helpful, but it was a convenient location for what we were there to do. Our rate was not as good as what you've been quoted.

Thanks so much for the quick response! Was it clean and modern?

No it wasn't clean and it was very dark, very small and very depressing. Yes, it is convinient to many things but there are many much better places to stay in that area. We would rather pay $20 more and stay somewhere else. We had to ask for a set of freash towels because those in our tiny, tiny bathroom loked like there were used previously by othere guests.

While it is not glamorous, I think the Ameritania is worth what you are considering paying. I found the rooms a little small (but this is NYC), but the lobby was very nice. It was clean and modern and I would stay there again if on a budget. But with the current state in NYC, you could spend a little more on quikbook.com and get a much better room. We recently stayed at the Library Hotel and loved it.

My husband and I sayed there for a weekend.First of all the phones in our room did not work. Friends of ours went to the hotel to pick us up for dinner and the desk clerk told them we were not guest there. Elevator floor dirty. Although, our room was clean it was very depressing, too dark and the view was facing a brick building that students taking dance class could look right into our room. At check out our bill included telephone calls we never made since our phone did not work and we had to use our cell phone. Please do yourself a favor do not stay there.

Try the Roosevelt. It was recommended to me, on this board for a trip last spring. Great location (midtown and close to Grand Central), good size rooms for NYC, clean, nice staff and reasonable price. I got a good deal thru the Entertainment Book, but have seen better rates more recently (after 9/11), like @$129/night. Have fun
