Amelia Island- budget weekend?

Hello! I have a business meeting in Jacksonville on a Monday, and my husband and I thought we might take advantage of a getaway the weekend before, perhaps to Amelia Island.

We'd fly down Friday, and as my hotel won't be covered we're looking for inexpensive lodging options. Any thoughts? Or is there somewhere else we should consider?

Thank you!

Oops- the trip would be mid-September. That's an important detail!

Great time of year on the Island. Summer tourists have gone, kids back in school and normally, the weather is a bit milder. Several budget hotels on the Island. Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, Best Western and of course go the the Amelia Island Chamber of Commerce web site for the other non-chain, less-expensive hotels.

The Hampton Inn is located in the Old Town & would likely be the only hotel I would consider. Some of the B & B's may also have specials running. The Florida House is probably one of the least expensive. www.ameliaisland.org & www.ameliaisland.com.

I vote for the Hampton Inn also.
We were there so many times when we were househunting in Jax and for weekends away from Jax..plenty of restuarant choices too as well as the charm of the area..

There are two Hampton Inns. The one in the downtown historic district is a Hampton Inn and Suites and is a bit more expensive than the standard Hampton Inn on Sadler Road (mid Island). I don't recommend the Florida House. Its next door to an outdoor bar that has a late nite noisy crowd and frequently live music. If you want a B&B there are several good choices but more pricey than the hotels I mentioned.

We have been to Amelia Island several times and usually stay at the Ritz Carlton but we have stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites downtown in Fernandina Beach and we liked it very much. I would not want to be at the other Hampton Inn tho. The Florida House is old and in my opinion is a fire trap - just my opinion from visiting friends who were staying there but I would not stay there.

Yes, the Hampton Inn in Fernandina..just steps away from the water and a manatee sighting if you are lucky.

Here is a good website if you need one
