Ambassador Hotel N.O.?

I've read here that the Ambassador is in a scary part of town - but then I've read elsewhere that it's fine. Would I be dumb to walk from the Convention Ctr to the Ambassador Hotel at 11:00pm during the week?

I'm not familiar with the Ambassador Hotel, but as a general rule the only completely safe place to walk at 11:00 at night is the middle of the French Quarter, which has a huge police presence and lots of people, too. If I were you I'd rely on cabs.

Sorry - in my subject it says N.O. - it's New Orleans.

Are the cabs safe to ride alone?

The cabs are absolutely safe. Locals seem to favor United.

The Ambassador is across the street from
Mother's Restaurant, on Tchoupitoulas.
This is next door to the Windsor Court
Hotel, two blocks from the Hilton,
two and one-half blocks from the river,
one block from Convention Center Blvd.,
two short blocks from Canal St., on
which the other side is the French Quarter.
It's also three blocks from Emeril's,
five blocks from Brennan's, two blocks
from the Creole Queen, four blocks from
the Carnival Cruise Line docks on Fri.
and Sun., two blocks from Riverwalk,
three blocks from the Aquarium . . .
and, it's not even a very good hotel!
DO YOU HAVE ANYMORE QUESTIONS ABOUT
NEW ORLEANS?
So, take a cab and use a gun!

Ok Chris - last sentence - NOT NECESSARY! If you don't want to help, then just don't reply! And what's with the gun comment? And do you have a reason that the Ambassador is not a good hotel or what?

I don't know a thing about the hotel, but I don't think the location is that bad. If it's situated as Chris points out (very detailed, even if he is being sarcastic), it's only a few blocks from the Convention Center. If you don't feel like walking it that late at night, a cab shouldn't be more than $5.
