Amazing Race Starts Tonight
Hi all...since the Amazing Race starts tonight in Brooklyn are we going to follow this on the US Board? Or, the Europe Board or Other Topics? "It don't matter to me". Let's just do it.
And which team are you rooting for from the beginning? I'm gonna pull for the family from Ormand Beach, FL.

Omigosh, Icee! I almost forgot! I've been waiting and waiting and forgot today was the 27th. That's what I get for being off for 2 days.
I don't care what board we discuss it on but I never remember to check the Other Topics one...

Last Tuesday I was all excited to watch this. Then I realized I had to wait another week
My DD told me that a family from our town tried out for it. They did not make the cut though because the kids were bickering too much, lol!

Thanks for the reminder! Love this show and I have been cracking up at the commercial where the little girl just keels over fast asleep. I can not imagine doing this with my family and I can't wait to see the complications of four people trying to be team players!

I liked the Blacks, but don't believe they could ever compete. If they hadn't lost this week, it would have been one of the next two.
The editors are being careful not to make the teams seem as annoying as last season.
With the exception of the Paolos. Ugh! They are kind of funny to watch, but not people I would ever want to be around.
No roadblocks last night. Wonder if they were edited out, or eliminated?

Very entertaining. And for someone who loves history, loves New York City, and hates the New York Yankees (the Boston family saying "Yankees suck, Yankees suck" as they passed Yankee Stadium), it was extremely entertaining. Next week's show looks great too, since I am into Civil War history. My 6-year old, who loves to travel, became a real fan too (of course, she must watch the rest of the show on tape tonight since it lasted until 11). She and I were joking about trying out for the show last night.

..I realy enjoyed the family version, more than I thought I would..seeing the dynamics and each person's contributions is interesting...I felt for the nice family that got eliminated but they seemed to do everything with no sense of focus or urgency. I like the Weavers from FL I think the best, and I actually am interested how the Gaghan ? family does..with the 2 youngest kids that all run...I am looking forward to an entertaining season !

My BF and I were tickled to see that it started in Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the SUVs were parked RIGHT OUTSIDE our building...you could even see right into our bedroom window! Holy crap!
As much as I loved past Amazing Races, though, I think this one is going to be somewhat annoying (loud, fighting families). One of the most annoying - the Paolos - are from my hometown {cringe}. And jeez, I hope they're heading off in a plane around the world soon...I watch this show because they go to EXOTIC places. Hope this time it's not just some road trip round the country.

I missed the first 1/2 hour, but saw most of it while unpacking groceries.
That buggy pull runaway looked dangerous with the hill, and it was lucky the mom didn't get hurt when the thing overran her. It seems that they switched tasks. Doesn't seem like they were penalized for it.
It's lovely seeing the country, but I have a feeling that this one is going to be chock filled with squealing girls noise. I actually turned down the volume. Glad I had majority boys when I hear this noise.
Doesn't it seem "funny" that when groups this size get their next directions, they all seem to act frenetic and shout directions/instructions at each other that are meaningless for a few moments, then get into the cars and minutes later seem drained and oftentimes lost for leadership. It seems to me that those first few moments in the car are when the biggest mistakes are made in a rush (wrong exit just trying to get out). One of the most productive things that most could do to improve their times is to jot down the route "in" or landmark site (track/mentally with landmark) directions for going out when coming in. At least they would have access to the former route, if necessary and one proven "out" track. And make one person who is not the driver responsible for this. Designate map person, mile post/route person etc. It's easily done with 4 people and 8 eyes. One person should just be reading signs aloud while others do the landmark search etc.
The Detours are going to be rather strange, I think. Physical feats that could be done by 50 pounders or 250 pounders??? They will all probably include one feature that is not primarily physical strength.
Right away I can see big differences between this and the duo's. The duo's could mesh their strengths/weaknesses to each other more easily. This one it seems like there is always going to be some weakest link that will feel the brunt one way or another. But also the blame is more dispersed. Some of the people younger than I, but middle-aged, sure don't look they did a speck of physical work in their lives.
I wonder if this race will be primarily by auto. Seems like it will be hard to manage plane tickets for four, in the ways that the duos could. Or train tickets either.
There are 3 or 4 groups that are going to be MUCH slower than the others this time. In the first month, I bet the last two groups are hours and hours after the others in the top 5. They don't seem to have a driving leader and too much is committee decisions.
I really like the 4 women together- they seemed to have bonded before this show. And the widow who is constantly invoking Jesus is annoying but she's going to get her group moving all as one with little input- it could be a big advantage or could also go quite astray if she, the boss, makes a wrong choice.
I don't have a favorite couple of groups quite yet. I do like the three son-in-laws with their FIL- but I don't think he has enough pep to be a light under their fire. And I like the family with the two small kids too, but I doubt that the kids will always be advantageous. Overall, I think 2 to a team was better.

This was weird and I hope the real Amazing Race comes back soon.
Agree with everyone who thinks it's awfully loud. I'd like the four sisters a lot more if they dialed the shrieking down a lot. Phil's going to have to remember ear plugs in future!
Initial impressions, which may change(!):
Don't care for the Schroeders after the dad's remark about handicapped children.
Do like the Linz siblings, although I was disappointed at how poorly they did.
Like the Aiello's..the dad with his sons-in-law.
I also like the father with his three daughters but I can't rememer their name.
Don't care much for the Weavers and I'm amazed that they did so well when apparently their mom doesn't know that Pennsylvania is a State.
Hopefully, the Paolo's will leave soon.
Did anyone notice that the guys with the franks were Kevin and Drew who came in fourth in Season 1? Disappointing that only one racer recognised them, one of the Paolo boys.It will be fun if previous racers appear in each leg.

I've only watched one prior race, so I didn't notice that, Barbara.
Somehow I don't think this one is going to have a very large following. There just isn't as much serendipity when you have 4 people. I'd wager a team or two drops out of this one just because of some medical problem.

I enjoyed the show last night. A good chance of pace. I relly liked the Black family ,but agree that they did not seem to have that winning drive. The Paolo family got on my nerves more than once, especially the mother. Thankfully, I missed the handicapped children comment. I noticed the men at the frank stand and thought they looked familiar, but couldn't figure out from which race. I wonder if there will be other past participants that show up in the new episodes?

JJ5,
Changing between the two tasks at a detour is fine. We have even had a team in the past doing one task, when they stumbled across the goal of the other one.
They wouldn't have to find tickets for just 4 people, but tickets for 6 (sound and camera crew).

JJ5, I have to admit, I watched season 1 for the first time this summer on GSN. Kevin and Drew, who were/are known as the Frats because they're fraternity brothers, didn't appeal at first, but ended up being one of my all-time favorite teams.
Another thing this season, they changed the colors of the flags.

Yipes, even getting a bit to eat is going to be more problematic for that number. And bathroom visits?? All those young women and kids!!!
Definitely the men and all male teams are going to have an advantage on that one.
And I bet we are going to see kids get "pushed" before its over- a la little league parent syndrome. It would be hard for this NOT to happen as in the heat of competition- age can be momentarily forgotten.
The Paolo mom- I have an aunt that could be her twin. She's 91 now and her scowl could stop a horse in its tracks. I TRAVELED to Germany with her once. And actually got lost in East Germany and Berlin just trying to get away from her. LOL!
