Count me as one more wishing that Colin and Christie would have been eliminated last night, but I guess it may be more interesting with them still in the game...I just don't want them to win. The remark about Colin being a scary, scary man is dead on!
|
From the replies here, I would bet anything that the reason Colin & Christie are still there is because the producers knew we would all want them off, and to make it more exciting. It's disappointing, nonetheless.
C&C are very much alike....she wants people run down in the street so she can pull ahead, and then tells the taxi driver that another team "played unfair" by giving them the yield. Get real, girl! My question is, you never see these people eating and drinking other than at the pit stops....do they ever eat or drink all day long???? |
re: eating and drinking
They are often traveling several hundred miles at a time, so I imagine that is when they eat and drink and rest. |
After reading all these posts and rethinking last night's episode, I've decided that Colin and Christie really do deserve each other. They are both obnoxious (he annoys me a little more than she does, but they are both hard to take) and I wish they had been eliminated.
I hope Chip and Kim win the million bucks! |
The producers aren't going to show the racers eating. They stick to the interesting stuff.
Plus, the racers are only interested in tickets for themselves. The company has already made arrangements for the camera/crew, both there and at the next destination. Any ideas on the next destination(s)? |
Last night's episode was the best! However, I do admit to a long and anguished wail "NOOOOOOO!!!" as Phil told C&C that it was a non-elimination segment.
I have wondered, though, about the mechanics of the teams entering each country. Some of these countries require visas - and the teams act so surprised when they rip open their envelopes that tell them where to go. So I wonder if the producers just have them fill out visa applications for a number of countries - some to be really used, some not. |
Regarding the eating...I've read interviews (the most recent one with the "twins" on tvguide.com) that talk about this. They really don't eat when they are "racing" very often--mostly because they don't have time, but also because they don't have a lot of extra money. I would think that occasionally they'd grab a bite while waiting for a flight at the airport, but I don't think they are stopping anywhere to eat.
Although, in the first season, "Team Guido" would often be seen sitting at a posh cafe during down time. Priorities, I guess. :) |
I only ask about the eating, ahem, because in my fantasies about doing the game myself, I wonder about how I'd fit in my six times a day eating schedule ;)

I wonder if "My ox is broken," will make Entertainment Weekly's quotes of the week like Nicole's comparison of mosques to Starbuck's .
Chip made the comment that if the moms could complete the bridge challenge in New Zealand they will win the race. Hmmm, jor, Colin with a tape worm, would that be worse for Colin or the tape worm? And, of course with next week being the final episode, I have to miss it. Darn. Hope I can set the VCR properly. |
I'm not sure Colin was sure his Ox was broken, does he have one at home that works fine???
I actually read in TV Guide last year that there are two other people traveling with each couple. A sound person (Colin & Christies person must have a fune time) and a camera person and that they have to secure four seats. They must be coach seats and are paid for with a credit card supplied by AR. They can't buy out a plane as one team did during the first season. Now they can only buy what they will use. I do not like Colin & Christie. I can't believe what a hot head he is and watch out Chip, cause if Colin gets ahead of you, he will yield you. Should be a good season finale. |
Last night's show was great, except for C&C not being eliminated. But as huggylynn said, it's probably because they're good for ratings! ;0
Have to wonder what Colin was like growing up (oh, right, don't think he's done that yet!) Well, he is a bit like a boy stuck in the Terrible Twos... We have a small ongoing wager on the race at work, and draw lots for names at the beginning. I drew the models, so I'm still in there with a shot. But I'd love to see Chip & Kim win, they have gotten such pleasure from every place they've been, and treated most folks with kindness and respect. (And as a, um, mature mom, have to root for the bowling moms too. No wonder they were so quick on the van project -- they've no doubt assembled many toys on Christmas Eve!) |
Does the next season really start on Sept. 25?? I will be leaving for a couple of weeks vacation but if anyone knows what nights of the week it will settle into I'll tape the episodes..I love this show and won't want to miss any episodes of the next AR. Thx.

Although I don't like Colin and Christie much anymore you have to admit that last night was good tv. They are so fiercly competitive, it was a complete role reversal where Colin kept breaking down and Christie was the one barking orders. Any one of those teams would have been just as ticked off for getting the yield at this point in the game so it didn't bother me that they were angry. My husband and I knew there was one more non-elimination left in the game. Since someone was elminated last week you'd figure this week would be the last one.
Usually, at the beginning of each show they show footage of the teams at the last pit stop eating a huge meal all together at a table and explain that during that time they ate and slept (and probably cleaned themselves up). I read on the website that teams usually eat as much food as they can on their flights (often times they are on 8+ hour flights ). The cash they are given at the beginning of each leg has to be used for cabs, admission fees, food, etc... so food isn't as important as paying for a cab or bus. As for the 2 extra people that travel with each team, I almost wonder if they don't automatically book or purchase 2 seats for the crew on every flight option from that location. Obviously they know ahead of time where the teams are going, possibly even approximate times and days for when they would be leaving on a flight. Otherwise, if they had to always book 4 tickets it seems like it would severly limit the flights they could take at the last minute. |
Looks like they are going to do the Fall AR on Saturday nights. This is the first year they are doing this in the fall.
|
news release...
CBS has announced that despite its earlier announcements, the next edition of the series, The Amazing Race 6, is no longer scheduled to debut as part of the network's fall programming slate and will now only premiere in "late October or November." |
I used to thin Colin was the villain but after hearing Christy tell the driver to run over the people on the road I think it's a match made in Heaven or probably Hell. What a bummer I will miss the finale because I will in Maui....I guess I can make the sacrifice but I may need to get Tivo before I leave!!
|
CBS.com has the next AR listed as starting on Saturday, October 2.

I haven't liked Colin & Christie from Day1, basically because they dismissed the cousins Charla & Mirna right off, Colin called Charla a midget & laughed at them. Christie deserves to be with Colin, it'll be interesting at the end of the show to see if after the race ended, if they continued as a couple.
Didn't seem fair that they weren't eliminated...scary thought to think they can still win, but they do make good TV. I'm liking all 3 of the other couples now, guess Chip & Kim are my favs because Chip is so darn likable! |
I was exhausted after watching last night's show--exhausted from laughing so hard. I loved the Yield, I loved watching Chip squirm with guilt for using the Yield, I loved, loved, loved the C&C ox caper, I loved watching one of the moms fall on her butt in the mud after they found the rope, I loved watching Chip try to cross that beam, I even loved hearing Christie tell the cab driver to run over the pedestrians. What a great show! C&C really deserve each other. I expected they would not be eliminated because of the wording they used..."one team may be eliminated" as opposed to "one team will be eliminated".
|
Hi everyone. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Colin and Christie fan either, but I thought the reason they were so upset about the yield wasn't just the fact that they'd been yielded. I thought that they were upset about the yield because of WHO yielded them. I think they were under the impression that they could trust Chip and Kim and that they were cool with them, so it seemed like a betrayal to them. I guess they forgot that, no matter how cool people are, everyone is playing to win. Anyway, that's my opinion...
