alto bar resort/grand canyon

My husband and I are planning a visit to the Grand Canyon soon. We heard about a hotel in the park called alto bar. Can anyone give me information regarding this hotel; ie town location, phone number, etc. Perhaps this is not even the correct spelling of the name. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you thinking of El Tovar by any chance? It's a lovely old hotel in the park...hard to get reservations there so if that's it, start trying now. Otherwise you might try Bright Angel Lodge and cabins. We stayed there as El Tovar was full, but loved our accommodations right on the rim--nothing fancy, but fine for the amount of time you are in there!

All lodging for within the park is handled through one central booking system. I did ours online...don't recall the address now--maybe www.grandcanyon.com then follow the links, or just type grand canyon into any search engine.

Thanks for the response. That is probably the place. We'll give them a call.

Hi Nancy...when you post a reply to a message, the name you fill in is your own...otherwise it looks as if someone is asking themselves questions then answering them too. gt;

I was trying to find the online address I used for making our reservations, but no luck. I did find a site that describes all the accommodations within the park, their prices and gives the phone # for reservations. One phone number serves all the park hotels. Here's the address of the site. If you have any other questions I'll be glad to try to help. http://www.infomagic.net/~keyah/inlodge.htm (I did a "copy and paste" to get it in here so it should be accurate.)You might fiddle more with other variations in a search engine...try Amfac or Fred Harvey Hotels or the like. It was so easy online as I could see what days they were available and make our plans accordingly.

Thanks so much for all your help. I did get the central phone number for reservations and we are all set. I certainly would have never found it with the info I had!
