Not much difference - if you are taking an interisland flight. the typical interisland fligth is only about 20 minutes long - so in flight services are minimal (the stewards sort of really quickly scoot down the ailes handing out soda - they scoot right back to pick them up again for landing). The planes are about the same. I recall hearing something on the news recently about Hawaiian maybe having some maintenance problems because of their old fleet. (?? - you might need to do a news search on this if you are interested.) Both airlines mostly use jets, not props. A very few flights are on props that can land are certain very small airports. Ticket prices are about the same.
Hope this helps.

I chose Hawaiian because American is one of the airlines I accumulate frequent flier mileage on, and I was able to earn American frequent flier miles on my Hawaiian flight. You may want to look into each airlines' partners to see if this is an advantage with either of them for you. I don't think there is that much difference between the two of them otherwise; if you're just flying between the islands the flights are so short that it hardly matters. We were only offered juice on our Hawaiian flight but that was fine because it was so short.
