Algonquin Hotel, NY
We are planning a trip to NY this fall and
are considering staying at the Algonquin.
Anyone stayed there? Thoughts on the
accomodations? This is our 10th Anniversary
so any advise on a special restaurant before
theater on a Sat. night?

I can't advise about the hotel, but for a special restaurant in the theater district, a strong recommendation for Chez Josephine on 42nd Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues. Definitely make reservations in advance (212-694-1925). It's owned by 2 of Josephine Baker's rainbow children and it's delightful. The host, Jean-Claude, is Mr. Personality personified. Excellent food, service and ambience. It's our favorite. You didn't mention how much you wanted to spend, however. Please advise.

My husband and I spent a night there last March before a wedding. Be advised that the rooms are extremely small but we found it to be cozy. I don't think we would have enjoyed staying there more than one night because of the small size of the room.
Also, make sure you request a room on an upper floor! Our room was right outside the clanking metal cleats for the canopy and those kept us awake at times during the night since a storm was coming through. You also will have less street noise to contend with on a higher floor.
We thought the service we received from all the hotel staff to be first rate.
