Is the night tour worth the extra money? If so, any recommendations on which tour time is better 6pm or 7pm?

Although it has been a few years since I've been on the Alcatraz tour, I would definitely recommend taking the night tour. My husband and I been on both and the evening tour is what we both say was the best tour. Not sure if it makes a difference which time you take, but be sure you are there after the sun has set as the view at night is awesome.

I don't want to create confusion but an additional 'benefit' of the day tour is the spectacular view of the SFO city area from the Rock. Sydney Aust is without a doubt one of the best harbours in the world but seeing San Francisco from this vantage point is truely something to see.

I've only done the day tour but loved the boat trip, views and photos of San Francisco skyline.

Will it be dark at 6pm or 7pm? Maybe that adds to the atmosphere of a night tour.

We did the tour a few years ago and loved it. We timed it perfectly to get both the daytime and evening views. Was light on the way there and dark on the way back. I would definitely recommend that.

We're trying to decide whether to do the 4.20pm or 5.10pm night tour on 19 October (no later tours are available).

I understand that sunset will be at around 6.30pm and wondered which of those times will be better, in order to ensure that we see a bit in the light and a bit in the dark !

Any thoughts ??

The 5.10. The tour will take at least an hour so you'll be coming back in the dark.

We visited san fransicso last july and we took the night tour and it was just awesome. you have to do the audio tour. The view at the night is just very very nice. I would definitely recommend the night tour.
