Alcatraz and a broken foot

I will be recuperating from foot surgery when we go to SF and was wondering if there is alot of walking associated with the trip to Alcatraz and if so is it flat or hilly, Thanks for your help.

You have to climb a steep hill to get into the main prison building. I would skip it.

But there is an assitance train that can take you up the hill, it doesn't hold many people and it only runs once an hour I think but if you are dying to go it is an option.

The entire tour is walking and there are few places to sit down and rest.

You can sit on the toilets in the cells. I remember seeing several people doing it, while having their picture taken.
