Alaska Itinerary
My husband is climbing Denali this June. I plan to meet up with him at the end of his climb and travel around Alaska for one week. I need some help and/or review of our itinerary.
We are active people in our 30’s. We like to fish, kayak, see wildlife and eat. We are also celebrating our wedding anniversary. Any suggestions, especially around the Girdwood/ Soldotna part? Does that make sense to stop in Soldotna to fish for Salmon?
June 29 Talkeenta (plane ride around Denali)
June 30 Denali- Wonder Lake
July 1 Denali- Wonder Lake
July 2 Denali drive to Girdwood to visit Mt. (???)
July 3 fishing maybe stay in Soldotna-Log Cabin Lodge
July 4 Seward-Harbor View Inn
July 5 Seaward- Harbor View Inn – Kenai fjords tour
July 6 Seward to Anchorage
July 7 Anchorage (depart)
This board has been helpful and I appreciate your responses.

I would re-arrange your itinerary because the Girdwood Forest Fair is July 6,7 and 8 and I enjoyed it. Good place for music and interesting food vendors. The quality of crafts ranges from Girl Scouts to wonderful artists who sell in museum shops. The vendors are set up along paths that wind thru the woods.

I assume you know about the Mt Marathon race in Seward on July 4? A poster from Alaska described it as a fun event. Your other choice for July 4 would be the parade in Kenai (next to Soldotna) although more of a family event. (some good food concessions) I would add an evening with Hobo Jim, Alaska's balladeer. He plays in Seward, Homer and Soldotna. We went to the dinner show in Soldotna. Kind of hokey, halibut dinner was pretty good, most of the audience were locals, and the show is funny. His songs range from the well known Iditarod Trail Song, haunting ballads, romantic to funny. He's quite a character. Soldotna is about 1 1/2 hours from Seward on the other side of the peninsula. Seward is about 3 hours from Anchorage. If you have an evening flight home, you might stay in Seward/Soldotna area until July 7.
