Airline concerns

Does anyone know which airlines may be on strike the first part of April?

American, Delta, Northwest and another biggie (US Airways maybe?) are all in some type of standoff with either pilots, mechanics, flight attendants, etc. From what I've read, the President will step in to delay strikes as much as possible.

If you're really concerned you may want to fly Continental, which seems to be relatively peaceful right now.

I have the same concerns that you do because I'm scheduled to go from CA to Frankfurt April 7 on Delta. Today Bush did not intervene with a Comair pilot strike. I have been thinking that he would intervene with the Delta strike, so I could proceed happily with my planning. I guess compassionate conservatism doesn't help the traveling public.

Bush didn't intervene in the Comair strike because he wasn't allowed to by law. The federal mediation board (don't recall the exact name) has to recommend that the President use his powers because the strike poses a serious economic threat. This board felt Comair is generally a small, single-hub (Cincinnati) operation so this doesn't apply.

I'm fairly certain that the first day Delta pilots can strike is May 1. And I have little doubt that Bush will force them to continue working for at least 60 days after that.
