air show in oshkosh

We hope to make the air show in oshkosh next July. We are coming from Los Angeles. Which is the best airport to come into? What is the distance and how long will it take to drive to 2 Rivers? How long to drive to St Paul, Minn?

Thanks

Two Rivers is about 1.5 - 2 hours away, depending on traffic. St. Paul is 4.5 - 5 hours.

Best airport - all depends. Are you flying your own plane in? (That's not intended to be a smart-a** question, lots of people fly their own planes to the show) If you are flying your own plane, this is probably the wrong forum to be asking - I'm sure the EAA website would have good info.

Otherwise, Milwaukee is probably the closest "major" airport. Chicago would be closer than Minneapolis/St. Paul. There are smaller regional airports (Green Bay, etc.) that are closer, but would probably result in longer travel times due to connecting flights. I don't know about non-stops from LAX to MKE, but certainly MSP and both Chicago airports would have plenty of them.

The Outagamie Regional Airport in Appleton is very convenient to Oshkosh. Not sure about a direct flight. Whevever possible we use this airport--it's a nice size, plenty of parking, and close to town. We did fly out of Outagamie last year during EAA and had no problems.
Anyone who has been to EAA knows that during this time the sky is full of planes and Oshkosh becomes the busiest airport in the world.
A word of advice--book your hotel ASAP.

As noted earlier--the EAA website is an excellent source for information. There are many people who do fly their planes into Oshkosh and camp on-site.

Wondering if you've made plans for the air show, flowerpatch. we're thinking about it but the closest accomodations we can find are in Green Bay. Have you booked a hotel?

If you are looking for a place to stay during the EAA:
My family has a home on Lake Winneconnie (5 minute drive to Oshkosh) and they always rent it out every year for the fly in. It's 2 stories, 2 full bath, 3 bedroom, can sleep 10, right on the lake. Let me know if you are interested at all.
