Ahwahnee Hotel Restaurant-Yosemite

Is it worth eating a meal at this hotel in Yosemite National Park. Is the food good? I know it is expensive. Would be eating at night when it is dark and thus no view.

The room is magnificent, can't comment on the food since I haven't eaten there in many years.

I have only heard wonderful things about this restaurant from my parents. They live in Yosemite for 5 months a year. They save the Ahwahnee Hotel for special occasions.

We ate lunch at Ahwahnee--there wasn't much of a view as I recall. The room is impressive and, though I don't have a clear recollection of the meal, I made a mental note that I would like to eat there again some time.

You can also enjoy a light meal, soup and appetizers, in the beautiful bar area. In warm weather there are tables in the garden directly off the bar. Also piano music sometimes. This will give you an opportunity to stroll around this wonderful, historic property.

We ate there on my birthday September 2001, it is worth it in my opinion, just for the atmosphere and saying that you have dined there. The food was very good.

Definitely worth eating there, including at night with no view! The food is great, and it's a beautiful place.

I last ate dinner there in Feb. 2007. I love the Ahwahnee hotel and believe it is worth eating there for the atmosphere although in my experience, the food was just ok.

In a conversation with one of the Ahwahnee servers, they mentioned that the kitchen is a bit outdated and a long walk to the dining area (which is a huge room) so hard to keep food hot, etc....

In any case, it's still completely worth it to eat in one of the grand lodges of our National Park system but I don't go in with high expectations of the food.

I loved the whole experience of being in the hotel (did not stay there, just walked around)and eating in the restaurant. The food was good, not excellent, but good and the room is beautiful. Great atmosphere and I thought the view was wonderful. I would go back.

Sure, the place is beautiful, but the food isn't worth the money. It's a judgment thing whether you feel the atmosphere is worth it.

Thanks everyone for the advice. My wife and I will have one dinner at this restaurant and two at the Yosemite Lodge where we will be staying. It does sound like the experience of eating in such a wonderful environment will overcome whatever deficiencies might exist to the food.

It is beautiful like the others have said. The food is nothing special though, but it is the best food around. The Sunday brunch is ok. The other eating places in Yosemite aren't very good, mostly pizza, cafeteria style and to get to a good restaurant, you have to leave the park and drive a ways. You can always look at the restaurant and then have a drink and a snack at the bar..

Yosemite Lodge is a very good place for a meal. Ask for a window seat, you'll be right beneath the Falls.
