My contribution to this otherwise excellent list:
Stock up on extra chain saw blades if you live in a well tree-d area.
Take all vital papers and jewelry to your safety deposit box at the bank.
Keep a folder with all pertinent data you might need during the storm (land and cell numbers, bank and cc account data, insurance info, etc).
We had one car packed to go inland if needed.
islandpaddler, You have my greatest respect if you've endured 3 mos without power and phone after a hurricane. I also imagine that living on an island poses other complications (like evacuation and re-supply) that those of us on the mainland don't encounter. Lots of us repying to this thread did the have just been through Isabel. Cut us some dark humor slack regarding the booze please.
For GoTravel, Having been through Floyd and Isabel (like you I assume), if there is a Cat 5 hurricane bearing down on my roof I will most certainly not be under it. I will be far away with my most treasured possessions (family, pet, and a few photos) probably tossing back a couple of martinis.
