Advice on some hotels
Hi everyone,
I am planning on going to Hawaii for my honeymoon and am thinking of the following hotels. I dont want to be miserly but at the same time I am not on an unlimited budget, and the following hotels seem to fit the bill.
Oahu: Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel
Maui: Royal Lahaina Resort
Big Island: King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel
Does anyone have any good\bad\indifferent experiences or any thoughts about these hotels ?
I will appreciate any response from you all.
Thanks !
Carl

Finally, someone on this site, who doesn't have money to burn!! I've been through a thousand posts litterally, and hardly see any posts about cheaper hotels, only the top notch high class ones...
Anyways, sorry for venting...My point is that I don't remember seeing many posts about the hotels you have listed...but I'm researching Maui mostly, and have heard that the Kaanapali Beach Hotel,Lahaina Inn, Lahaina Shores Resort, we're pretty decent priced and good overall...Also look into renting condos, they are cheaper than hotels...

Sorry Celeste but I've been using this site for years to help with my US and European travels and at least 99% of the questions asked are for cheap hotels, etc.
I for one and thankful that this site finally has a few posts for those of us who do not want the cheapest hotel option in every city.

I have stayed at Lahina Shores several years ago. The location is good and right at the beach front. If you can get an ocean view room, it's not bad. Nothing fancy but clean and have direct beach access. I seem to remember they also have kictchenett as well.

we have stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort and the King Kam,both are mid range hotels that have seen better days but in my opinion are a good placee to stay for the money Both hotels are clean and in good areas. You might want to consider the Royal Kona Resort on the big Island which is owned by the same Co. as the Royal Lahaina. We have never stayed at the Ilikai But we eat in the restaurant there every trip.
hope this helps.

The Renaissance Iliki in Waikiki is the singular most awful hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed there less than 30 days ago, in early Jan.
We picked it because of a promo rate through hawaiian airlines ($119). It wasn't the guest room that was intolerable, although it was cramped, hot, noisy (but it had just been refurnished). It was that all guests had to use the freight elevator, which was miles away from the front desk, they lied about no construction going on (said it was completed the previous month), when there were contractors everywhere. The people at the front desk were terrible. They charged an outrageous amount for parking, which is run by an outside vendor who was completely rude and not trustworthy.
The two other hotels you mentioned are familiar to me although I have not stayed there. I don't think you would be happy at either, as they are not the pleasant experience that you are expecting in Hawaii.
Surely someone out there can recommend some better choices for you in the budget category.
Also, I suggest change your topic heading so people will know what it is you are inquiring about.
Good luck, and avoid the Iliki.

I stayed at what I considered to be a very reasonable BI hotel the Outrigger Royal Waikoloan. Check their rates(Entertainment Book or web rates available.) It not right in a town but has the most beautiful beach and gardens. I thought it was pretty inexpensive for what we got. Sorry, don't know about the other hotels, but I recommend any from the Outrigger chain.

Carl, when are you going to beautiful Hawaii?
The Renaissance Hotel in Wailea is the best.
Also, from reading many posts, The Kaanapali Shores, which is hotel also condo, has received many good reviews. If you take a condo, you can have breakfast, and an occasional lunch there, saving the special dinner time for a great restaurant. I think most of us feel that dinner should be really special.
All of the restaurants inthe Renaissance Wailea are exceptional. Hana Gion is a wonderful experience.

I was in Kona for a week on Oct.
I stayed at the Ohauna Beach Resort.
Not bad. My ocean view room was around
$130+ 11% tax, plus daily parking.
The King Kam hotel is about the level
of a Howard Johnsons. I was only in the lobby a few times, never saw the rooms. It wasn't that great.
The town has some great resturants!
I know, I know it's a chain resturant, but I enjoyed the food at Bubba Gump Shrimp. BUT....They wouldn't seat me in the prime local, the deck, because I was (GASP) alone. They were going to put be against this wall, at a bar stool ledge, like some leper, and I INSISTED on being seated outside
.....they did. Sorry to digress...the
food was good, the employees were insensitive.
Keep checking around Kona for something a wee bit nicer, to stay at.
