Advice on Ft Lauderdale area Marriott related hotels
We just got a very cheap airfare to Fort Lauderdale. Will arrive on Thursday August 8 around 10 am and leave Monday August 12. Would like to drive to Key West and spend Thursday night and drive back up to Ft Lauderdale Friday evening. I have a certificate good for category 4 Marriott property for two nights and would like use it Friday & Saturday.
Would appreciate any recommendations for place to stay Thursday night in Key West and places to eat or drink there. We like neighborhood not fussy type places. Also any tips for such places in Fort Lauderdale.
I am considering Renaissance Hotel in Fort Lauderdale to use freebies. Any comments? Or where would you recommend Thanks so much

No knowledge of Ft. Lauderdale area Marriott properties, but the Marriott in Delray Beach (20 min. north of Ft. Lauderdale) is very nice, right on the beach, with a nice pool area and pool bar (serving lunch and drinks). It is also at the east end of Atlantic Avenue (known for restaurants, shops and bars) and right next door to Boston's on the Beach (Seafood/Bar/Grill with live entertainment often).
As for Key West, I would not recommend driving that far for one night (it is about 4 hours from Ft. Lauderdale, most of which is on a two lane road). While Key West is unique, you can get the Keys experience staying in Islomorada or on of the other closer keys (complete with tiki bars and great snorkeling, etc.). If you choose to make the trek to Key West, try to stay two nights and stay close to the West end of Duval Street where the action is. Good luck!

Ft. Lauderdale does have a Marriott Property. There are the Beach Towers. I am not sure of driving to Key West then making it back to Ft. Lauderdale by the 12th for an early flight. It is quite a drive. There are many places to eat in Ft. Lauderdale. Right on A1A there are many cafe type places. Have fun.
