We like the Riverplace Hotel located directly on the waterfront. It has been renovated and the property is gorgeous. It's nice to be able to walk the riverfront to the shops, restaurants, etc.

Luxury hotel with a very nice ambiance. I hope you get to dine at Paley's Place and/or the Bluehour while you're visiting Portland. ***kim***

Scarlett- glad to see you weathered the hurricaine and planning another trip already.

I LOVE the 5th Ave suites!! I'll be returning there this Friday and Saturday night, then trying the RiverPlace for two nights. Still can't decide whether to return to 5th Ave or try Vintage and Paramount for the last 3 nights. (I'll leave town then come back)

Got reservations for Paleys, and plan to go to Noble Rot, Bluehour, Henrys, and some old favorites as well. 7 days and nights to eat and shop in Portland... my idea of a great week!

Don't forget Clarklewis! If you love great, fresh seafood, The Harborside is good. Beautiful views of the water from the third tier of the restaurant. Pricey, but good.

If you dine at the Riverplace's new restaurant, The Third Degree, let us know how you like it. ***kim***

The California Redwoods are beautiful. Stop if you can and enjoy a hike. Be prepared for a very winding road from the coast to Grants Pass. (2 hours) Not really too many places to stay in Cave Jct., Be sure and bring a sweater or jacket into the Caves, they are cold! In Grants Pass, would definitely recommend the Redwood Motel on 6th. very nice pool area, and also the Riverside Inn as someone else mentioned. It has been hot here in Grants Pass, but due to cool down this weekend. It has a nice homey downtown area. Restaurants: Hamilton River House has beautiful deck and great menu, quieter than Rafters restaurant at the Riverside, or Si Casa Flores for Mexican, or The Bistro has the best deep dish pizza! Jet boat ride is terrific if you have the time, but should reserve ahead of time! I live here and still enjoy the ride every year! Also, you may not need as many stops along the coast, it isn't really very long, but not sure how much stopping you like to do! Well enjoy, Oregon certainly has a lot to offer.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Seattle and down the coast of Oregon. I read many excellent suggestions. We enjoyed the lighthouses and sand dunes and if you can travel to McMinnville,by all means ,go to Evergreen Aviation Museum and see all the different aircraft and the Spruce Goose. You could easily get there if you are in Salem.
