Access to Cash in Northern AZ
My husband and I are getting ready for our Southwest road trip next week - we are flying in to Las Vegas and then driving in a loop clockwise to Zion NP, Kanab, Page, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Window Rock, the Hopi Mesas, and the Grand Canyon.
We need to know about access to cash on the Navajo reservation. Are there ATMs in places like Kayenta and Chinle?
I also read that some places may not take credit cards because they don't have online access. We're not going too far off the beaten path, but do places at Canyon de Chelly take credit cards? I assume Goulding's does.
Also, does anyone know if places that can't take credit cards will take traveler's checks instead of cash? Just trying to get all our ducks in a row, and carrying large amounts of cash makes me nervous.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, Kayenta and Chinle have acttual towns and they have ATMs. Most tourist attractions will take credit card for admission etc.
Most gas stations, minimarts will have them. You may have to pay a fee to use ATM, but you should find them without trouble.
Traveler's checks are a good back up, you might actually have a bit more difficult buying with them; little mom and pop places, roadside stands may not take them.

Myer,
Although we would love to see Bryce, we had to pick and choose. We decided to spend an entire day volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary outside of Kanab. We've been members for 10 years and are excited to finally get the chance to visit (it's the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the country).
