Acadia national park in mid november
We are a late 30's couple with very busy lives and like the cold weather. we want to visit the acadia national park in mid november. is this possible or the park is closed? We are in good shape and would like to spend time hiking, enjoying the wilderness and relaxing. Our key priorities are to do photography of beautiful sites - sunrise, sunset, stargazing if possible in this weather and hike. Would really appreciate any insights, tips on what to cover and where to stay?

Google is your friend.

I can think of several National Parks that I would rather visit in November.
Where are you coming from?

November is the month I dislike the most because there can be a long, cold rainy spell. Here's a link to what's open year round: http://www.barharborinfo.com/getatta...16-v5.pdf.aspx

In November in New England, altitude can be your friend.
Cold drizzle at sea level translates into snowflakes in the mountains. If you are experienced hikers and have the gear, there are trails in the White Mountains that offer beautiful hikes at this time of year.
Look at the Appalachian Mountain Club website.

Yes, Maine and Acadia can be wet, cold, and dark in November. But it can also be crisp and bright! If you're looking for photo ops you will get much more interesting pictures this time of year. Re: Ackislander's comment on altitude, the mountains at Acadia aren't high enough to likely turn drizzle into snow. The moderating effect of the ocean is too hard to overcome. As she says, the Whites are a different story.
Bottom line, if you want to take the chance, go for it and you may be rewarded! If you're traveling a long distance I might choose a different park for mid-November.
