ABQ to Santa Fe - breakfast or lunch on the Turquoise Trail
On our first trip to Santa Fe, we will arrive in ABQ at about 8:30 AM, rent a car and head for the Turquoise Trail to Santa Fe. Any suggestions on a late breakfast or early lunch stop on the way?
Thanks.

Hands down, The Mine Shaft Tavern in Madrid. No contest far as I am concerned!

Sorry, posted too quickly. The town, [where the John Travlota movie, Wild Hogs was shot] is pronounced MAD-rid [not MA-drid like the city in Spain].
If you have some time, check out the shops, they have some nice ones:

If you only have time to visit 1 place, be sure to head across the street and see the glassblower, Al Leedom -he does amazing work.http://www.alleedom.com/ I have 2 pieces he did for me and they are beautiful and he is amazing to watch work.

Ditto Deb's suggestion. It's a quirky, fun community of artists so you will see some wacky designs and artwork. A really fun atmosphere at The Mine Shaft and it serves you enough food that you may not be hungry until dinner!

If the timing is right for a meal as you're coming or going to the Albuquerque airport, check out two funky but enjoyable local experiences near the airport in the close vicinity of the University of New Mexico campus:
Frontier Restaurant (it's an original - especially for breakfast) at 2400 Central SE:
www.frontierrestaurant.com
and really good New Mexican-style Mexican food at El Patio, where you can sit inside or outside, weather permitting, at 142 Harvard SE (cash only).

I have lots of ABQ restaurant picks on here:

Frontier has THE best tortillas in town; it is quirky and decent food.
