A Wonderful Ranch
My husband and I ran into Prairie Sky Guest and Game Ranch in Veblen, South Dakota by "accident" a couple of months ago. We got very good vibes, so we planned a vacation there. We just got back from a wonderful week at this very special place and I need a forum to express my enthusiasm. The people, the scenery, the food, and the accomodations are spectacular. My 14 year old niece from California joined us. She said it was the best vacation she had ever had. (And this is a girl who has traveled the world -- Australia, China, Europe, etc.). Their web site does not do the place justice, but it is worth a view. www.prairieskyranch.com. I would love to talk to others who have been to this place (which has been open less than a year), and talk to anyone else who has interest in visiting. They provide great riding, hunting in the fall (they raise their own game), and snowmobiling in the winter. But the small town prairie atmosphere was just what these two big city lawyers needed. Highly and enthusiastically recommended. Kristi.

Good for you Kristi! Please post a little more about your trip. We are always looking to "get away" and this sounds great! What did you do or not all day? Also, we have one child (14) she normally brings a friend along, would this work? What are the accomodations like? Thanks

Noach, I also am not sure what you mean. But this place is in a fairly conservative area. I guess it would depend upon how "alternative" your lifestyle is. Anyway, in response to Lily's inquiry, they have two bedrooms rooms in the main lodge with shared bath. They also have 5 or 6 cabins which accomodate up to 8 people. The cabins are really cute. They each have two private bedrooms and a big loft with two additional beds -- plus a bathroom, fireplace, and living area. The cabins are not air conditioned (the lodge is). It is just a simple down home place -- but everything is just so well done. The decorating is great. The owners are wonderful people (Bruce and Corrine Prins.) Here's an example of what these people are like. I was having some trouble learning how to tie a certain knot on my horse's lead rope. I swear, Bruce would have spent the entire day helping me learn this knot. I was getting so frustrated with myself and he just kept patiently helping me until I got it. Then, on the first day I saddled and bridled my own horse all by myself I could see how happy he was -- he gave me a huge hug and just looked so proud. You feel like family at this place. Let me know if you have any other questions.
