A week in NYC
Greetings all from England. I am visiting NYC in July and am looking for a good hotel to stay in. I am also looking for a good tour guide/company.
I have booked tickets online for the Yankees game on Fri 19 Jul what is the best way to get to and from the ground.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Simon,
The best way to get to Yankee stadium from Manhattan is the subway (enter Yankee Stadium in the text search box of this page and you'll see all the information from previous posts). You will have to give us a lot more information for hotel recommendations: your budget, what you want to be near etc.

When I went to New York I used "The Big Apple Greeter as a tour guide. They were absolutly wonderful and free! You have just got to check out their web sight! There are hundreds of "good" hotels but only one "Big Aplle Greeter"! http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/

Simon-
To get to Yankee Stadium from Midtown Manhattan, just take the #4 train uptown right to Yankee Stadium...it's the 161st Street exit. The exit is right outside the stadium. You'll be with lots of others going to and from the game. Just follow all the people in Yankee caps. (BTW, you're going to a great game. The games between the Yankees and Red Sox are always the most exciting. Great rivalry!)
As for hotels, as others said it's hard to give advice without knowing your price range and what area you want to stay in. For a start, go to the rants & raves section (http://www.fodors.com/rants/) or put "New York hotels" in the forum search box.
Someone mentioned Big Apple Greeters. That's a good group that matches you up with a native New Yorker who will show you around an area or neighborhood. They have a good reputation. There's also the hop on-hop off bus tours. Grayline has one.

Simon,
I LOVE the Hudson Hotel. There are also 3 great bars there, so you don't need to travel far for a scene. Also, the W Hotel, the Chambers, and Soho Grand are also nice. I've heard great things about The Mercer Hotel, but haven't stayed there yet.
Good Luck!
