Patrick,
What do you think about the Seagull that just opened? Brantley gave it a good review last Friday in the Times.

I'm not Patrick, but I can tell you that just about all the reviews were unqualified raves! If you're interested in seeing it, get tickets now, as it's reportedly only playing for 12 weeks.

We missed this production (it had just ended) in London last year, but people were still buzzing about it. I know Kristen Scott Thomas won the Olivier for best actress for that production. I'd LOVE to see it.

DH and I saw the Seagull last week (Sept 30, day before openning night). DH love it. Hate to say it, but I was bored to tears.

Does anyone have any feedback on the play Black Watch?

They're talking about it on Charlie Rose now and was wondering if it's going to be playing on Broadway.

andrew - here's a bit of info on it. I personally don't know anything more.

What did you hear on Charlie Rose?

Here's Ben Brantley's review of Black Watch from a year ago:

It sounds fascinating, but more of an Off-Broadway than a Broadway production.

It's now playing at the St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn until November 30th.
Charlie Rose had 2 of the main actors on discussing the play and how it had received rave reviews by Brantley.

Can off Broadway plays win a Tony award?

No, Tony awards are an exclusive Broadway thing. Off-Broadway shows aren't eligible until and unless they transfer to Broadway. In the Heights and Spring Awakeing are two recent examples of shows that started off-Broadway, then moved to Broadway and subsequently won Tonys.

When was it expected to close? Well, it was NOT intended to b a limited run. The producers would have loved for it to run forever.....well, at least for a few years! But after getting negative reviews, its fate was pretty much sealed.

I don't see how it would be scheduled to close before the holidays.

CP is going to be surprised about this news.

There are a number of shows literally waiting in the wings to open on Broadway and there is currently a shortage of spaces for them. Some shows are now closing that might normally run longer on discounted tickets because theatre owners are looking to get bigger "winners" in there. Several shows are scheduled to open and they are waiting for a theatre.

The revival of Hair is already scheduled to take over the Hirschfield when Tale of Two Cities closes.

A play about the hippie counter culture and the sexual revolution, sounds perfect !!!!

I hope Hair gets good reviews as I would like to see this in December along with Osage County.

Sorry andrew8, but Hair is not opening until after the first of the year.
Incidentally, its chances of success are quite good, since it got highly favorable reviews when this production played in Central Park this summer.

Oh, yes. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Hair would open immediately or even before the holidays. It takes a couple months for the transition between shows normally. Hair won't start previews until mid February and officially opens in March.
