Faina, if I were her, I wouldn't be worried about her own germs, lol. BUT, consider this, how about the germs of the bartender? I squeeze, but never toss in the glass - I would have just re-hung it on the glass. But then again, this is coming from someone who just spent their entire vacation ill.

FainaAgain: You are not wrong to put the lime on the plate, if you wish...this is as acceptable, as is the dunking it in the glass, if you are not a lime lover or just don't feel like it that day!
Many alcoholic drinks call for a piece of fruit...i.e. cherry, pineapple, or an olive.
And of course , a wedge of lemon is often squeezed/floated in a glass of southern 'sweet tea'. DS won't drink it w/o it, but mine ends up 'on da plate'!
