If you wnat to stay downtown, try the Knickerbocker. Lots of 1930's ambience, perfect location just around the corner from the Magnificient Mile (Michigan Avenue) across the street from the Drake. Interested in something more modern, try the InterContinental.

My husband and I stayed at the Inter-Continental in Chicago last September. We were very disappointed. Our room was tiny and the halls were very noisy. For the price I would definately stay somewhere else. Our friends stayed at the new Wyndham on St. Clair street. It was a beautiful hotel and very quiet.

As a native of Chicago for 30+ years I have stayed several times at the
Swissotel. Great views of the city, convenient location, and the Palm Restaurant located in the hotel is a must! The decor is elegant, yet not "stuffy". Another suggestion is the Sheraton on the river. Both are within walking distance of restaurants, the Golden Mile and local attractions.

Last summer we stayed in the Palmer House, in the downtown loop. It was exquisite (the lobby is beautiful) and when we used our Entertainment Book coupon, the price was very reasonable. It is in walking distance of everything downtown and many restaurants, museums, etc. are right around the corner. We parked our car in the parking structure and never had to use it again until we checked out.
