A few questions about New York

Hi - I am planning on visiting New York in mid-June and do not know where the best places to stay are, we are from New Zealand and don't really know the layout of NY and what is a reasonable price for hotel accomodation in NY. We are both young-ish and don't mind being the middle of it all. Thanks. Hel : )

Without knowing your tastes or budget, it's going to be difficult to advise you.

However, to be near the "action," you'll probably want to stay somewhere in Manhattan between 45th St. and Central Park. The area around 45th is the theater district.

Sorry forgot to mention budget etc.. Thinking of about $130 US per night, have been told the Hilton New York, Lucerne(?), Paramount and Empire Hotel are all v good. (??) Tastes - doesn't have to be 'super flash' but should have all the ammenties and room a good hotel has. i.e views, room service, bars and restaurants, and not be well worn. Ta. hel

You may not be able to find what you want at that price that time of the year. For example, it's very doubtful that you'd get that kind of a rate at the Hilton New York. Keep in mind that when you say $130, you're really looking for a place around $110-$115 before taxes. And, the chances of finding a hotel at that price with "all the amenities" will not be easy!

Helen,

You can get a room at that price, but not one of that quality. Assuming two people in the room, budget more like US$200 a night.
