9/11 events

I will be in NY over 9/11 and would like to view any services and also the spot lights from the site on Saturday night. Is there a site which lists events and times? I have not been successful in finding anything for 2010.

Thank you.

The events for 9/11 have dwindled over the last couple of years. I think there will be one at St. Patricks Cathedral, and there will be some kind of "service" at the Trade Center site, which will be televised.

Since I am a singer and have done several of the events over the last few years, I would hear of events being planned and I have not heard of anything this year.

Try the St. Pat's website if there is a service it will be listed there.

Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention the lights. Last year they were placed on top of a parking garage, a few blocks south of the WTC, and since there is so much building going on now, I'm guessing that the lights will be in the area, but maybe not in the heart this year.

The memorial fountains are supposed to be working by next year, but you can clearly see it now at the site, but I don't think it is open yet for the public.

The lights are clearly visable from everywhere in the city, I have pictures of the lights from last year taken just north of the WTC, and if you look closely, you can see a "rainbow" right in the middle of the beam of light. Made me cry again,,,,,,,,,,,

I think I found what you are looking for www.about.com has a listing of events to remember 9/11. If you look around the site, you will find a listing of concerts being done on 9/10 and 9/11. Alot of jazz and some small ensembles, and ST. Pat's will feature the New York Choral Society, (200 singers) and a children's choir.

Hope that helps.

For anyone else interested - and not sure what will be televised in each area, the main events are:

Moment of silence at beginning of ceremony followed by rining of bells at houses of worship around the city

Four more moments of silence, one when each tower was hit and one when each tower fell

The names of the lost will be read as usual - from before 9 am through about noon. This time the pairs of readers will be family members of victims and workers who are now rebuilding the site

Although the events will not be as extensive as they were in the years immediately following the event, the plan is to continue the ceremony of reading the names of the lost every year in perpetuity

Well, the big one is planned for next year. Some towns have even cancelled events until 2011. But they had the televised memorial with the reading of the names anyway at the WTC.
9/11 2011 should be the one to see, especially if Osama is finally killed; ifcourse the U.S. could end up losing like in Nam and Korea.
BTW, if Castro dies, Korea's leader dies, Karzai is killed, the dung is gonna hit the fan.

POMAH -

I fear you have misunderstood the entire point of this. People are mourning their dead. And feeling empathy to those now dead or ill due to their work in rescue among the ruins.

More hatred and death is not the answer.

Solving political issues around the world is. (Naturally terrorists must be caught and punished - but your broadscale hatred - and confusion about our recent history - is not the answer.)

This is Amie; I finally saw the blue lights on Saturday evening along with many others at Ground Zero....very beautiful and worth the trip.
But I am curious about the "sparkles" that appeared to float in the two beams....very high.... They did not seem to escape or move away. Any help on what they were or represented?

Thank you,
Amie

Amie,

The same thing happened last year and I think it is water vapor, or water droplets coming down through the lights that act like a prisim.

In my pictures of the lights from last year, in just about the middle of the beams you can see a rainbow effect, and again it was a misty evening, and the rainbow was a perfect "effect".
