we have 8 days in maui as a honeymoon....booked at four seasons for the full time. as we like a lot of activity and meeting people...should we split our time between the 4S and a hotel in a busier area like the hyatt? or is wailea busy enough and the drive easy enough between them?

Personally I'd spend four days each in Wailea and Kaanapali.

Going a week from Sunday for the 3rd time. I am staying 3 in Wailea and 5 in Kaanapali. Three days of pampered solitude is all I can take. Then I look at activities and options.
However, Anywhere in Maui is great.

I's stay in one place. If you move you basically will lose a vacation day. Check out, drive, check in, unpack, etc. Maui isn't that big, you can see all there is to see from one place. Have a great time, I wish I were going back....

An entire day to switch hotels?

Half hour to pack, half hour to check out, 45 minute drive, half hour check in, half hour unpack....let's see that's about 2:45 out of an entire day.

It's not like they'd be sailing to Kauai or something.
I'd say check out both parts of the island.

what a difficult question. My husband would say stay,stay stay at the Four Seasons, and with pause, I would have to agree. It is simply the greatest resort, there is plenty in the area to see and you can plan side trips and then return home to heaven. Otherwise, I would consider 2-3 nights elsewhere and 5 nights at 4S it is the grand finale and you may meet some great people as we did, poolside, at Spagos bar and at Nick's bar at Kea lani...have a wonderful honeymoon!

Do yourself a favor and stay at the four seasons the entire time, as I believe that you would be disappointed with any other hotel. We just returned last week from staying at the fours seasons and had an incredible time. The hotel and service is impeccable. It costs a lot of cash to stay in Hawaii so you get the most for your money and I truly felt that way during our stay at the Four Seasons. I would be happy to provide you with more details about our experience if you want.

Hey Chuck, you're gonna have to teach me how to move FAST! The problem we ran into with switching hotels were the ones that had a late check in time and no place to store the luggage until we got the room. Not every place is able to hold your bags or has a luggage room for your use.

Stay at the 4S and walk to the beach. If you turn left and take a stroll past the condos, you'll see the villas at Kealani. Walk up and check out Nick's Fish Market as previously mentioned for dinner (past the pools and downstairs from the main lobby.

If you stroll to the right, the next hotel is the Grand Wailea (I think they are next door, if not they are very close). The GW is huge and has walkways to koi ponds, a chapel and connecting pools. The lobby is equally huge and has shops and a disco (at least they used to have one).

There is always golf, restaurants and other things to do in Wailea.

Don't forgot you're on an island, so things aren't far apart. I'd stay in one place like the 4S and go to Kannapali, or drive up to Kapalua. Get a map and check out the island.

Maui is GREAT! Have fun.

Hi , I am going to Maui for 12 days in May(anniversary) and staying at the Fairmont Kea Lani the whole trip. Is this Hotel equal to the 4 Seasons?

Oh ... Lahaina and Kaanapali are such great areas, I'd hate to think that you would only spend one night or one day there. But if you're staying in Wailea ... realistically, I think that's what would happen ... you would probably only make the drive once.

My vote is for dividing your stay between the two places. You could always stay at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua which is just 10 minutes north of Kaanapali ... so you would still have easy access to the Kanapali/Lahaina area. And Kapalua is beautiful in and of itself! We stayed at the Ritz last October and loved it!
